'Law & Order: SVU' Season 22 Episode 3: Homage to Cardi B? Fans think 'that WAP song' broke writers' room
Spoilers for 'Law & Order: SVU' Season 22 Episode 3 'Remember Me in Quarantine'
Anything can happen on NBC's 'Law & Order: SVU' even if the show has been on the air for 22 years and is the longest-running primetime series on television, the NBC procedural drama always manages to include a few surprises. The first one in this week's episode, which also served as the winter finale -- saw the episode opening with Sergeant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) speaking Italian, hand gestures and all.
Much later in the episode, another surprise came. But before that, let's recap the events that led to it. This week's case was that of a missing Italian student who was found dead in a freezer in the house she lived in. Her roommates were the suspects, but throughout, Olivia and her team were led in one direction and then another because the roommates either lied or could not remember the events of the night because they were high.
Eventually, they speak to one of the student's roommates, Perry, who is asked to describe the events of the night. We learn that it is him who killed the student after she was involved in a threesome with another roommate, Lexi, and the latter's drug dealer, Sean -- making Perry jealous that the victim did not sleep with him. While he is describing hearing noises of people having sex in the other room, one particular line perked up viewers' ears. Perry spoke about hearing a few songs, saying, "Drake... Cardi Bi, that WAP song."
Now, in an episode that was to reflect how much life had changed over the past year, it made sense that 'WAP' and Cardi B made an appearance of sorts. It was one of the songs that defined the past year and fans could not help but be amused. One fan tweeted, "never thought they would mentioned the wap on svu #svu." Another wrote, "And Like Clockwork Cardi & Megan Get their own #SVU Alibi! #RememberMeinQuarantine 'I Dunno!!! Drake! Cardi B! That #WAP Song!'"
