Netflix has added one more Korean drama to its growing list of dramas coming to the streaming service this month. Starting weekly from July 17 is 'Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung', a show about a historian who tries to fight gender stereotypes as her work is often looked down upon. While the series is not entirely a Netflix original, the streaming service is responsible for international distribution in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The series will begin playing on MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation), a South Korean Network. It is also the network airing another one of Netflix's K-dramas, 'One Spring Night'

According to the official synopsis, 'Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung' is set in the early 19th century of the Joseon Dynasty when everyone is old-fashioned. While people are occupied clinging to the past, something unbelievable happens. In order to leave records about the queen’s quarters, which are off-limits to male historians, an unprecedented government exam is held to select female historians – they have to be moderately brazen and honest.

In such times, no one, not even the king, can talk to someone in private without the presence of a historian in the room. The historians answer to no one, really. But it remains to see if the same autonomy would apply to female historians? This series is a love story about prince Yi Rim (played by Cha Eun Woo), who is second in succession to the throne, and Goo Hae Ryung (played by Shin Se Kyung), the female historian who believes that the brush can be mightier than the sword.

A look at the trailer and we couldn't stop giggling in our seats. The upcoming historical drama tells the love story of palace historian Goo Hae Ryung and next in line prince Yi Rim, who is a popular romance novelist on the down-low. We see the quartet around Goo Hae Ryung navigate life in the royal palace and figuring out how to document the royal history – they are set to be the first female historians in a legacy that spans more than 400 years.

The series also stars Park Ki Woong, Lee Ji Hoon, Park Hi Hyun, Kim Yeo Jin, Kim Min Sang, Choi Duk Moon, and Sung Ji Ru.

While the show comes to Netflix, we're not sure whether it will be dubbed in English. Since the show is a simulcast, there will be subtitles available. The series comes to Netflix on July 17, 2019, and episodes will be released weekly. According to reports, however, that two episodes will be released in South Korea every week.
