Biased Knetizens? After ratings dip for 'Snowdrop’, JTBC scores well with 2 new series

'Snowdrop' received a 3.6 rating, despite being a global success, while JBTC's ‘Forecasting love and weather,’ and ‘My Liberation Diary’ have won over Knetizens

Blackpink’s Jisoo and ‘Something in the rain’ star Jung Hae-in was slammed before their iconic JTBC ‘Snowdrop’ series was dropped. But after it was released, global fans loved Jisoo’s debut series. Sadly, the ratings were abysmally low in the Korean domestic market. Now that the 'Snowdrop' series is over, JTBC’s next two releases, ‘Forecasting love and weather,’ and ‘My Liberation Diary’ have received great ratings in South Korea. Are Knetizens biased or are the two series really better than 'Snowdrop'?

'Forecasting Love and Weather' is a romantic drama set in the offices of the National Weather Service where the stars fall in love. Cha Young Hoon is the director of the 16-episode series which was aired on February 12, 2022. Jin Ha Kyung (Park Min-young), Lee Shi Woo (Song Kang), Han Ki Joon (Yoon Park), and Chae Yoo Jin (Yura) are the four characters in the Korean drama series. The series depicts their professional lives as well as their personal lives and loves. On the other hand, 'My Liberation Diary' is a story about three siblings who wish to break away from their oppressive circumstances. Yum Min Jung, played by Kim Ji Won, is the youngest sibling and is quiet and timid until she decides to ditch her monotonous life. Yum Chang Hee, the middle sibling, is played by Lee Min Ki. He is someone who wanted a more interesting life in the city but instead he wanders aimlessly without desire. Yum Ki Jung, played by Lee El, the eldest sibling, who feels her youth has been wasted.

How are the ratings so far?

As the plot for 'Snowdrop’ was pretty controversial, many Knetizens signed a petition to stop the show from airing. But despite the outrage, the series somehow managed to steal the hearts of viewers, globally. Sadly, the ratings stayed stuck at only 3.6% which shocked audiences rooting for the series from across the world. Blackpink Jisoo’s excellent debut surely deserved more praise but the biased Knetizens did bring down the ratings. In comparison, JTBC’s 'Forecasting Love and Weather' is currently enjoying a 7% nationwide rating while ‘My Liberation Diary,’ to be released in April 2022, is a highly-anticipated K-drama that will also, in all probability, score well. Does that seem unfair? Fans of 'Snowdrop' seem to think so and have taken to Twitter to vent their rage at Knetizens' "cruel bias." One user wrote, “Dude because the measurement of the drama rating is only if you watched in JTBC Channel which is in Korea. You are not aware about that? So why are you blaming the international fans? 😒 Go and check Disney+ ranking and you will see that Snowdrop been ranking high there”. While this is true, there are also Blackpink anti-fans and 'solo stans' (who root for only one member while dissing the others in the group) who have left tweets like this one: “Praying for SNOWDROP to flop🙏🕯️”. Another anti-fan wrote, “FLOP SNOWDROP.” So, the failure of 'Snowdrop' to get the attention it deserved can be pinned on both Knetizens, sensitive about their country's history, as well as biased solo stans of Blackpink and anti-fans trying to sink Jisoo's acting debut.
