From 'Kingdom' to 'Love Alarm', the top 10 K-dramas to look forward to in 2020

After a phenomenal 2019 with 'Memories of Alhambra', 'Romance is a Bonus Book', 'Kingdom' and 'My First First Love', global audiences can now look forward to more interesting content from the South Korean entertainment industry.

After a phenomenal 2019 with 'Memories of Alhambra', 'Romance is a Bonus Book', 'Kingdom' and 'My First First Love', global audiences can now look forward to more interesting content from the South Korean entertainment industry. The following are the top 10 shows that we are looking forward to in 2020. 

1. The King: The Eternal Monarch

Cast: Lee Min-ho and Kim Go-eun

Release: Undisclosed

Plot:

'The King: The Eternal Monarch' is set in a parallel world where dark forces have been released by God and the cooperation between Heaven and Earth is important to close the gate that lets creatures of dark forces enter the Earth.

2. Love Alarm season 2

Cast: Kim So-hyun, Song Kang, Jung Ga-ram

Release: 2020

The second season of 'Love Alarm' will see Kim Jo-jo try to get the guard removed from her love alarm to be able to find the truth about who she is in love with. Jo-jo is now stuck between Hwang Sun-oh and his best friend Lee Hye-young. How this affects the relationship between the three will be the central plotline of the second season. 

3. Kingdom season 2

Cast: Joo Ji-hoon, Bae Doo-na

Release: March

Plot:



 

Netflix show 'Kingdom' season 2 will continue with the crown prince of Joseon Chang continuing his search for where the disease that is turning his country into a population of undead people is originating from. He will continue to do it with the help of Seo Bi, a medical assistant. 

4. Sandbox

Cast: Bae Suzy & Nam JooHyuk (in-talks)

Release: May

Plot:

The show is set in the IT world where the lead female character dreams of becoming the next Steve Jobs. How her life takes an unexpected turn after she meets a man who ends up becoming her first love is the central premise of the show.

5. Half of a Half

Cast: Jung Hae-in and Chae Soo-bin

Plot:

The show is a melodrama in which the central characters play the roles of an artificial intelligence programmer and an audio engineer. How their lives cross paths and the progression of their relationship will be the main plot of the show. 

6. If The Weather Is Nice, I Will Come Find You

Cast: Park Min-young, Seo Kang-joon, and Lee Jae-wook

Release: February

Plot:

This show is set in a rural region of South Korea and follows the story of a painting teacher Hae-won and Eun-seob, who runs a smallscale book store in the village. It is being touted as a warm, romantic tale. 

7. Youth Report

Cast: Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam (in talks)

Release: Undisclosed

Plot:

Not much about the show's plot has been revealed except for the fact that it would be set in the world of modeling where young people try their best to make a mark. However, this show has gained attention after actor Park Bo-gum's speculated involvement in the project. 

8. Itaewon Class

Cast: Park Seo-joon & Kim Da-mi

Release: January 31

Plot:

'Itaewon Class' is based on a webtoon of the same name. The webtoon is about the CEO of a major company of Food Service and his son. The lead character Park Sae-ro loses his father because of the CEO's son and to exact revenge, he gives up his dream to become a police officer and instead opens a pub called Itaewon Class. 

9. Psycho However it’s Okay

Cast: Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji (in talks)

Release: Undisclosed

Plot:

The show is about a caregiver at a psychiatric hospital and an author who writes fairy tales. The author has an antisocial personality disorder and is also impulsive in life. The show may turn out to be the show which marks actor Kim Soo-hyun's return to television after 'The Producers' in 2015.

10. Memorist

Cast: Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young

Release: March

Plot:

It is a fantasy drama that centers on a detective who investigates murder crimes. Dong Baek has the power to read memories of people that he comes in contact with and he uses this power to solve the cases.
