Kim Kardashian married Damon Thomas in 2000 when she was just 19 years old. At the time of their marriage, Damon was 29-years-old and was ten years her senior. Kim and Damon eloped and married. They were together for four years and divorced in 2004. On an episode of 'KUWTK,' Kim revealed that she was under the influence of ecstasy when she married Damon. "I got married on ecstasy," she said while discussing the first time she ever took the drug.
"I did ecstasy once, and I got married. I did it again, I made a sex tape," she said to her sister Kendall Jenner and Scott Disick. She added, "Like, everything bad would happen," referencing her experience with the drug.
Why did they divorce?
Kim's divorce from Damon can be best described as a very messy affair, which explains why she's very reluctant to discuss it. She described Damon as extremely controlling who viewed himself as "the king of the castle" who decided and controlled everything about the couple's life. He reportedly convinced her to drop out of college, quit her job at the Kardashian family's clothing store, and even get plastic surgery. Damon reportedly convinced Kim to get liposuction by telling her that it would make her look perfect and even paid for it himself, reported Screen Rant. He also paid for other cosmetic procedures worth $1,000 when they were together.
According to the reality star, her then-husband wasn't very pleased with all the attention she got and was very strict about her not having any contact with any of her former boyfriends. According to the divorce papers obtained by a media outlet, Kim reportedly accused Damon of physical and emotional abuse while they were married.
‘That’s a fame-w***e to me’
Damon shared his side of the story during an interview with New York Daily News, in 2010, that in fact, it was he who filed for divorce after discovering that she was cheating on him with multiple men. He also refuted all claims of pushing Kim into getting cosmetic procedures by declaring that he was conned by her into paying for all her surgeries.
"Kim is obsessed with fame. She can’t write or sing or dance, so she does harmful things in order to validate herself in the media. That’s a fame-w***e to me," he said about his ex-wife. He also accused his wife of conjuring the stories of physical and emotional abuse to get more money from their divorce.
Kim never responded to Damon's claims, and he too never made any public statements about her following that interview, so the news of their marriage and messy divorce eventually died down. Since her divorce from Damon, Kim went on to marry Kris Humphries, whom she divorced after just 72 days. She later married Kanye West, and the couple has four children together. It was recently announced that Kim and Kanye have filed for divorce.
