Kim Basinger is back! Actress to star in '9 ½ Weeks' reboot of iconic 1986 erotic thriller
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: '9 ½ Weeks' came out in 1986 and instantly became the talk of the town as the movie had some of the most risqué scenes that gathered indignation from audiences. The movie starred Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke, where Kim plays Elizabeth, a New York resident, who works as an art gallery employee, and Mickey's John Gray is a wall street broker. The storyline continues when both individuals get into an intense affair.
The movie was directed by Adrian Lyne and was considered an erotic romance film. The film was way ahead of its time, including multiple sex scenes with BDSM themes along with a rape scene. The film got mixed reviews upon its release in 1986 and now Prime Video is bringing the movie back with Kim Basinger in the cast and would create a reboot concluding of 10-part TV series.

OG film was based on erotic poem novel
In the Prime reboot, Kim won't be a protagonist, but instead, she will be playing a college professor, as the series will be more inclined towards the erotic novel the original movie was based on instead of the 1986 film. The erotic novel title 'Nine and a Half Weeks' was first written as an erotic poem novel by Elizabeth McNeill, which was the pen name of American journalist Ingeborg Day. The novel was written like a memoir and had a very detailed description of a one-night stand that turns into a sexual adventure and a submissive relationship that lasts for nine and a half weeks, where the title of the movie comes from.
The Bond girl
Kim Basinger became a sex symbol after she starred as a Bond girl, Domino Petachi in the 1983 movie 'Never Say Never Again'. Although '9 ½ Weeks' was filmed in 1984, the movie wasn't released up until 1986. The actress also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1997 for her phenomenal performance in 'LA Confidential'. Kim was also seen in the seductive movie 'Fifty Shades Darker' and 'Grudge Match'. For the moment, Prime Video hasn't revealed any more details about the project and also about the actress who will be playing the lead, but one thing is confirmed the movie will be coming back in a series format on the streaming service.
