And after the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy, there have been several movies and series that started to explore the erotic genre. The series 'Outlander' is one example. However, the genre of erotic mutated into erotic-thrillers like the movie franchise '365 Days'.
Netflix is taking yet another leap with the upcoming release of the mini-series, 'Obsession'. 'Obsession' promises a raunchy, forbidden tale that follows the affair between William and Anna, who is the fiance of William's son. 'Obsession' stars Richard Armitage as William, Charlie Murphy as Anna Barton, Indira Varma as Ingrid, and Rish Shah as Jay Farrow. 'You'
What is the limit of love? And to what extent can one go for love? These are the questions that the protagonist Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) makes us wonder while watching the seat-clenching series. Based on the novel series by Caroline Kepnes, 'You' at the outset, seems like a perfect romantic comedy. Joe, who is a bookstore manager in New York, develops a crush on Beck (Elizabeth Lail), who is an aspiring writer. However, the sweet plotline stops there. As the series progress, it is stacked with horrific elements as the result of an obsession. The line between love and obsession gets blurred along the way for Joe as he goes on to stalk and removes any inconvenience that Beck may have, which includes Beck's family and friends! Each season of the show, explores Joe, being infatuated with a different person and he continues to follow the same system. 'You' shows both the story of a heated romance and a story of a serial killer that is narrated in an intriguing way, as a perfect erotic thriller should.
'Dark Desire'
What happens when a disgruntled woman spends a night away from her family that ignites her passion but eventually results in a spiral of unfortunate events? This is the question that 'Dark Desire' answers. 'Dark Desire' is a Mexican series that has a total of 33 episodes in 2 seasons. The story begins when Alma (Maite Perroni), a law professor who is married to Leonardo (Jorge Poza), a judge. They share a daughter named Zoe (Regina Pavón). However, things at Alma's house are on rocks as Alma feels like Leonardo is hiding something. On the other hand, Darío (Alejandro Speitzer), a student of Alma's, falls in love with her. Things get entwined to a point of no return as the affairs, deaths, and murders follow along. 'Dark Desire', though at times gets messier, is a perfect erotic thriller to binge-watch.
'What/If'
'What/If' is a 2019 mini-series that keeps you on the edge of your seat. 'What/If' can be considered a one-woman show by the Oscar Award winner, Renée Zellweger, who plays Anne Montgomery, a wealthy Venture Capitalist and powerful woman, who gets what she wants. 'What/If' follows the story of Lisa (Jane Levy), a scientist who needs funding for her biotech start-up. Lisa's research would potentially save the lives of millions of kids and she is nearing the win. However, she needs funding to complete her research. When Lisa's final hope comes in the form of Anne, Anne makes an objectionable request of spending a night with Lisa's husband Sean (Blake Jenner). She further adds a rule to the deal that Lisa may never ask Sean what happened at the night. This leads to several revelations and horrors which are narrated in a gripping way.
'Killing Eve'
When thinking of 'Killing Eve', almost everyone remembers the iconic pink gown worn by Jodie Comer, which caused a flood of inspiration for every red carpet at the time. But the series 'Killing Eve' is not pretty as the pink gown. 'Killing Eve' is based on the Villanelle novel series by Luke Jennings and it tells the story of Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), who works with MI6, in order to capture the deadly, skilled assassin, who goes by the code name Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and works for a highly influential organization called The Twelve. Things get out of hand when both Eve and Villanelle start to obsess with each other, which leads to a love-hate relationship. With four seasons and 32 episodes, 'Killing Eve' blends the perfect mix of thriller and steamy romance, presented in a stylized manner.
'The Flight Attendant'
A perfect transition of Kaley Cuoco from Penny in 'The Big Bang Theory', 'The Flight Attendant' is a perfect thriller to binge on. Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco) is an alcoholic flight attendant, who lives a reckless life. In the first season, After one fateful night, her life changes when she sleeps with a passenger in Bangkok, only to find him dead the next morning. Having no recollection of the events of the previous night, Cassie must keep herself together from spiraling and find out who the real killer is. A gripping tale, with a series of twists, 'The Flight Attendant' is one of the glossiest thrillers yet. In the second season, Cassie is seen being sober and has a boyfriend. She is still a flight attendant all the while working for the CIA as an asset. Murders follow Cassie as her impersonator of hers kills a person. So far, 'The Flight Attendant' has a total of 16 episodes in 2 seasons.
