Karl Urban set to combat as Johnny Cage in 'Mortal Kombat 2'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Karl Urban has been a fan favorite in recent times for his role in Prime Video's 'The Boys'. Regardless, Urban is all set to combat or should we say "kombat" in a new movie. New Line's recent 'Mortal Kombat' reboot didn't exactly achieve a flawless victory at the box office, but it performed well enough - especially as one of the first major Covid-era releases - to warrant a sequel, and producer Todd Garner recently took to Twitter to confirm that production is set to get underway in Australia this June. It is no secret that 'Mortal Komat' is returning with a sequel, however, the film's director, Simon McQuoid, will return for the sequel, directing a script by Jeremy Slater, who penned episodes of 'Moon Knight' and 'The Umbrella Academy.' While the 2021 film didn't quite live up to the celluloid insanity of Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 adaptation of the 'Fatality'-full franchise, it was clear that the folks behind it had a lot of love for the source material, and Urban could be the key to making this whole reboot work.

Karl Urban all set to 'Kombat'
According to The Wrap, 'Mortal Kombat 2' is closing in on its Johnny Cage. Karl Urban is in final negotiations to play the iconic game character in the sequel to 2021's 'Mortal Kombat'. However, Urban previously appeared in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the 2009-2016 'Star Trek' movies, 'The Chronicles of Riddick' series, and 'Thor: Ragnarok'. Urban's other credits include 'Dredd,' 'Doom,' 'The Bourne' 'Supremacy,' 'Red,' and 'The Sea Beast'.
Who is Johnny Cage in 'Mortal Kombat'?
Johnny Cage is a charismatic but slightly aggravating movie star and martial arts expert in the 'Mortal Kombat' universe. He first appeared in the first 'Mortal Kombat' arcade game all the way back in 1992, performing signature moves like shooting green orbs at his enemies. He's good-looking in a Ken doll kind of way, though going for an older, slightly more grizzled Cage is an interesting take that could make the character a bit more compelling than a magically-imbued Tom Cruise by way of Steven Seagal. An older Cage is also potentially a way to introduce his daughter, Cassie Cage, into the equation.
