Contains spoilers for 'The Boys' Season 3 Episode 8 'The Instant White-Hot Wild'
'The Boys' Season 3 ended on a gripping note. Getting some burning questions out of the way, no one dies, but that's not to say they will be in the pink of health as the show heads into a confirmed Season 4. While the season finale wasn't honestly as impactful as the previous installments, it does set up an interesting new plotline for the upcoming edition.
While Homelander (Antony Starr) will continue to be the big bad, there will also be ample focus on Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) who is set to play a key role as the VP candidate in Season 4. With that, we take a look at the ending and answer some of the key questions that arise.

'The Boys' Season 3 ending explained
What happens to Butcher by the end of Season 3?
Butcher takes another shot of Temp V despite Starlight's warnings that it will cause death after prolonged usage. The de facto leader of the boys makes sure Hughie (Jack Quaid) doesn't take his dose but still ends up taking it to kill Homelander once and for all. In the aftermath of the Vought showdown that ends with Soldier Boy being taken out by the nerve gas, Butcher collapses after his nose started bleeding and later wakes up in the hospital to bad news that he's indeed dying due to the continuous use of the compound. While he is alive for now, his fate depends on how it all pans out in Season 4.
Will Maeve and Soldier Boy return?
Despite taking the full brunt of Soldier Boy's energy blast, Maeve survives. She does lose her powers and an eye after Homelander gouges it out. In the final minutes, she decides to move out of town and live a quiet life with her girlfriend Elena. The exit leaves the door open for her return to help the boys in some capacity. The same goes for Ackles' Soldier Boy who goes back to cryosleep. Whether Homelander breaks him out and forms the new Seven with him remains to be seen.

Is Victoria Neuman the villain of 'The Boys' Season 4?
Almost definitely. In an interview with TV Line, actress Claudia Doumit teased more about her character hinting that she's not all team Homelander. "You can never really pin her down. She is an incredibly strategic character," she said. " She’s also quite duplicitous, she’s highly manipulative. So it’s very hard to see where her cards lie. But this season, you see a definite shift in her allegiances. She makes some heartbreaking sacrifices for those closest to her. As you see, she’s teamed up with one of the show’s most horrific characters [in Homelander] that you just absolutely love to hate. Who knows where it will go, but I think a team-up of Homelander and Neuman probably would not end well."
'The Boys' Season 3 is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
