Kanye West and Drake going for a Verzuz was one of the hottest topics of discussion when the former pitted his new album namely ‘Donda’ against the latter’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ (CLB) back in August. Cut to their 'Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert' at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum held on December 9, the fans dubbed the concert as an “unofficial Verzuz” after Kanye belted out some of his iconic numbers from his vast and impressive catalog.
 
Quashing their beef in mid-November, Kanye and Drake decided to come together for a benefit concert aimed to free an individual named Larry Hoover who has been imprisoned since 1993. Yeezy and Drizzy sharing the stage together got the Internet to erupt with joy as they claimed their performances were nothing but a low-key Verzuz battle. Drake was earlier slammed by social media users for agreeing to perform at a concert weeks after Travis Scott’s ‘Astroworld’ tragedy.

Kanye West, Drake’s benefit concert dubbed as “unofficial Verzuz”

Kanye West and Drake looked dapper as they made their way to the stage at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Kanye first thrilled the audience with songs from his latest album ‘Donda’. He then upped the ante after performing songs from his legendary albums like ‘College Dropout’, 808s and Heartbreaks’ among others.  Drake too performed on his award-winning singles and also the latest from his album ‘CLB’ like ‘Way 2 Sexy’ and others.
 
The benefit concert was streamed Live on Amazon Prime. Speaking about the concert, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement, as reported by CNN, “We're extremely proud to collaborate with Kanye and Drake on this historic concert, in support of a cause they are both so passionate about. Kanye and Drake are global superstars, and this will be a can't-miss, epic entertainment event for Prime Video customers and hip-hop fans around the world." Kanye had first proposed the idea of the benefit concert to Drake via an Instagram video where he then spoke about the possible end of feud with Drake. He said, “I’m making this video to address the ongoing back-and-forth between myself and Drake. Both me and Drake have taken shots at each other, and it’s time to put it to rest."  He added, “I’m asking Drake on Dec. 7 to join me on stage as a special guest to share the two biggest albums of the year, live in Los Angeles, with the ultimate purpose being to free Larry Hoover. I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause, but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride to the side and come together.”

‘Kanye finessed drake with a low-key Verzuz’, jokes Twitter

Social media users rushed to Twitter during the concert as many claimed that Drake could never beat Kanye in a Verzuz. One user stated, “This is secretly a Ye & Drake Versus! Everybody wins especially Hip-Hop. They basically said we don’t need the Verzuz platform.” Another user posted, “Bruh it’s no way drake could beat ye in a Verzuz it’s really hit after hit after hit listen to the crowd!!!!!” One shared, “Kanye finessed drake with a low-key Verzuz lmaooo he gotta come with it.” One fan tweeted, “This is simply too good for a IG Verzuz, it can only be done like this. Even if Kanye just performs Drake’s entire catalogue and he never touches the stage.”
 
The next one shared, “This is basically a Kanye and Drake Verzuz show’, as another chimed in, “Drake and kanye giving us the verzuz we needed.” Echoing similar sentiments, one stated, “Andddd honestly, this is why a Kanye and Drake Verzuz wouldn’t make sense. Kanye’s catalogue for me is far superior.”  Another said, “Kanye/Drake is a verzuz concert on steroids.”  One user posted, “Wait a minute is this a kanye vs drake verzuz fr cause if that’s the case then drake got his water cut off instantly.” Meanwhile, one added, “Kanye really performed my favorite drake song. kanye really came with a plan and washed drake in an unofficial verzuz”, while, one concluded, “This has become the unofficial Drake-Kanye Verzuz, I’m here for it.”
