Kanye West’s arch-nemesis Drake might have dropped a huge album in the form of ‘Certified Lover Boy’ aka CLB but that is not affecting the former’s latest release ‘Donda’. Touted as one of the biggest albums of the year, ‘Donda’ might have pulled in top numbers making Kanye sit on the throne once again.

The 44-year-old rap icon’s latest offering was dropped on Sunday, August 30 which is unusual for an album release as new music always reaches fans by Friday. Since Kanye  was not willing to drop the album, his record label Universal Music Group had to do the needful. The delay cost the Grammy-winning rapper a total of two days but looks like that could not damage the sales of ‘Donda’. Halsey’s fourth album ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ that was released on Friday, August 27 is expected to fall behind the rapper’s new studio effort.

How much did ‘Donda’ sell in its first week?

The first week numbers for ‘Donda’ have been locked and yes, it does appear that Kanye might have another number one album in his kitty. According to Chart Data, the Atlanta native’s new studio effort has pulled 327K in its first week with 44,311 arriving by way of traditional sales. We still have time to see whether he will score his ninth number one album or not but the numbers are surely looking promising. According to Chart Data’s tweet, ‘Donda’ is expected to debut at number one on the US album charts. “@kanyewest's 'DONDA' to debut at #1 on the US albums chart with 327K sold first week. It earns the biggest debut of the year (via @HITSDD).” Kanye West’s previous albums like ‘Watch The Throne’ with Jay Z , ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, ‘Yeezus’, ‘Graduation’,  ‘Late Registration’, ‘The College Dropout’, ‘The Life Of Pablo’ and ‘Ye’ peaked at number one on the charts.

It will also be interesting to see how Drake’s ‘CLB’ performs as within a day of its release, the rapper’s new project has already broken the Apple streaming record for the most-streamed album in a single day. Kanye had created a lot of hype for his 10th album with four listening parties. He even dropped exclusive merchandise for the same along with a stem player that allowed music lovers to customize songs as per their taste.

‘CLB will not reach Donda’

Social media users took to Twitter to discuss Kanye West’s scoring another number one album with ‘Donda’. While a few extended their support to the rapper, others claimed that Drake will outsell him soon with ‘CLB’. One user on a similar line claimed, “Drake finna outsell.” Whereas, the next one posted, “Drake gonna do 525k with CLB. Calling it.”

One user added, “Just deserved.. It's an amazing album even though I'm not a Kanye fan, I had to listen to track by track and see what really is one of the best albums of this year. Whoever disagrees doesn't know what he's talking about. CLB will not reach Donda.” The next one tweeted, “Dropped on a Sunday mother**king afternoon and still dominated.” While one shared, “Not just Album of the Year, it's Album of the Life.” Another person said, “Dropped on a Sunday and still went crazy easy 500k+ if it was on Friday.”  One user claimed, “DONDA is for the longevity and creativity.” And, another concluded, “If Kanye would've dropped on Friday he would have sold 500k.”
