'Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous' Season 1 Ending Explained: How the show sets up another season between films
The adventures of Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) aren't the only stories of narrow escapes that happened when the Indominus Rex got loose and wreaked havoc on a resurrected dinosaur theme park. 'Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous' features the stories of six kids who won an exclusive trip to a camping program that allows kids to interact with the dinosaurs up close and personal though the kids get a lot closer than they ever wanted to get. We take a look at the series' ending, how the show fits in with the events of the movie and what we can expect from a hypothetical Season 2.
In the 'Jurassic World' film, a normal day at the Jurassic World theme park was disrupted when a genetically modified dinosaur known as the Indominus Rex outstmarted its captors, escaped, and broke through the barriers that let many of the park's dinosaurs loose on unsuspecting tourists. However, tourists weren't the only ones at Jurassic World, as a group of children had, days before, been brought onto the island as the first batch of the Camp Cretaceous program. The show contains several references to the events of Jurassic World, including another angle from Simon Masani's (Irrfan Khan) tragic death, references to Claire Dearing, whose nephews almost joined the Camp Cretaceous kids.
Once the dinosaurs were loose, evacuation procedures began immediately. Unfortunately for the Camp Cretaceous kids, they were not able to get to the evacuation boats on time, leaving them stuck on the island of Isla Nubar, with Ben Pincus (Sean Giambrone) lost somewhere in the forest after being dislodged by a Pteranodon and falling off the monorail. All hope is not lost, however, as the kids' camp counselors, Dave (Glen Powell) and Roxie (Jameela Jamil) know that the kids are still on the island, and though they were forced against their will onto the evacuation boat, they plan to return to save the kids' lives. Meanwhile, the show's final scene shows that Ben did not die after falling from the monorail, as his pet Anklyosaurus Bumpy finds his body, which twitches just enough to let the audience know he's alive.
In 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', we see a group of mercenaries return to the island to gather DNA samples from the remaining dinosaurs. According to writer Colin Trevorrow, the scene takes place anywhere between a few weeks to six months after the events of the original film, which means that's how long the Camp Cretaceous kids are stuck on Isla Nubar to fend for their own. Though the kids missed the boat home, they have united as a team and a potential Season 2 would explore how they learn to survive on the island on their own.
It would not be the first time a child has been left alone on an island of dinosaurs in the 'Jurassic Park' film franchise. Eric Kirby (Trevor Morgan) survived for eight weeks on his own in 'Jurassic Park III'. The Camp Cretaceous kids have proven themselves to be a resourceful team, and will no doubt manage to survive well on their own, but before they can do all that, they need to find their friend Ben Pincus, and nurse him back to health, as they wait for help to arrive.
