Actress Ellen Barkin claimed that there was a "world of violence" around Johnny Depp in a deposition that was not aired at the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial. Barkin said that Depp often looked down on people who he believed were inferior to him, and even called an assistant "pig" on one occasion. The 68-year-old also said that Depp could be charming but that "most abusers are". She claimed that the first time she and Depp had sex, he "gave me a Quaalude and asked me if I wanted to f***".

These claims were revealed in newly unsealed documents from the recent defamation trial, the Daily Mail reported. Barkin said she met Depp around 1990 and the two remained close for ten years. They starred together in the film 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'. Their association came to an end when Depp allegedly threw a bottle of wine at her at a hotel in Sin City.

The jury did see some of Barkin's video deposition, but the transcript of the remainder was unsealed this week. Opening up about the incident where Depp threw a bottle at her, Barkin said that she "wasn’t surprised" as "there was always an air of violence around him". "He’s a yeller, he is verbally abusive. And those things you can see," she said. She went on to claim there was "just a lot of yelling" when Depp was around. Asked who he yelled at, she said, "His assistant. People who would work on the film maybe in what he would view as a lower capacity than he functions at. There is just a world of violence."

Barkin said that their relationship lasted several months. She recalled that she would go to Depp's house or he would come to hers three or four times a week. "He was drunk all the, most, a lot of the time," she said of Depp, adding that he was a red wine drinker. She saw him using cocaine, marijuana, and hallucinogenic drugs, and he once told her he was "tripping". "He was always drinking or smoking a joint," she said.

"Did there come a time when Mr. Depp acted in a way that was out of control with you?" one of Heard's lawyers asked Barkin. She replied, "Yes. Mr. Depp threw a wine bottle across the hotel room in one instance, in Las Vegas while shooting Fear and Loathing. A fight was going on, between Johnny Depp and his friends in the room, the assistant." She broke up with him soon after.

"He’s just a jealous man, controlling, where are you going, who are you going with. What did you do last night. I had a scratch on my back once that got him very, very angry because he insisted it came from having sex with a person who wasn’t him," Barkin recalled. She added that jealous comments were "very common" from Depp.

Meanwhile, unsealed court documents have also revealed that Amber Heard refused to accept a divorce payout from Johnny Depp that could have run to tens of millions of dollars. Heard, on the other hand, may have to sell her California home to pay Depp after being found guilty of defamation. Documents reportedly showed that the 'Aquaman' actress ignored her legal team's suggestion to pursue Depp for the maximum money she was entitled to when the pair filed for divorce in 2016.

Since the fourth installment of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was filmed while Heard and Depp were still married, she could have sought half of Depp's $33 million. Heard, however, did not seek the amount, the Daily Beast reported. She wrote in an email that she was being "amazingly true to (her) word, that this is now about the money." However, during Depp's defamation lawsuit against Heard, a judge refused to let that evidence be admitted.

A jury ruled in favor of Johnny Depp in his lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard on June 1, 2022. After deliberating over three days, the jury ruled in a unanimous decision that Heard defamed Depp when she called herself a victim of domestic abuse. She was ordered to pay $15 million in damages, including $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The jury also awarded Heard compensatory damages of $2 million because she was defamed when Depp's lawyer Adam Waldman called her abuse allegations a hoax.
