Cast
Joe Biden
Former Vice President Joe Biden was the 47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. He is in Senate for 36 years now, including eight years in the Obama administration. According to Politico, in his speeches throughout the 1980s, he repeatedly claimed to have “marched in the civil rights movement,” and cited “Bull Connor and his dogs” as what “galvanized” his political awakening. There is no evidence of Biden joining civil rights marches during this era, though he did take part in a picket outside downtown Wilmington’s segregated Rialto movie theater in the 1960s.
Kamala Harris
Harris is the first black woman to be elected district attorney in California history, the first woman to be California’s attorney general, first Indian American senator, and now, the first Black woman and first Asian American to be picked as a vice presidential running mate on a major-party ticket. Kamala Devi Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1964, the eldest of two children born to Shyamala Gopalan who hailed from Chennai in India. Kamala's friendship with Barack Obama dates back to his run for Senate in 2004. She was the first notable California officeholder to endorse him during his 2008 presidential bid.
She has widely spoken about Biden's economic recovery plan, in her interview with 19thnews, she indicated to it, "wage standards for home health workers – who typically make about $12 an hour and often rely on public assistance as well as domestic workers." She also pointed to women's employment in these industries saying, both industries "predominantly employ women, and the labor standards in those professions face minimal federal regulation." Harris’s own domestic worker policy, which she touted as part of the Biden-Harris platform, emphasizes areas such as overtime pay, guaranteed paid sick leave, paid meal breaks and wage protections. “When we talk about domestic workers — be clear, we are talking about predominantly women of color, who are spending hours upon hours night and day taking care of other people’s children, other people’s parents and grandparents,” she said.
