A brand-new documentary centered around the life and career of the best-selling pop icon, Janet Jackson, has finally been announced. Janet, a prominent figure in popular culture, has a career that has spanned several decades. She has been noted for her sonically innovative, socially conscious and sexually provocative records, and elaborate stage shows. Since her career began, it has felt like the pop veteran's story needs to be told, and now that will finally see the light of day in her new documentary, titled 'Janet', airing across several networks.

Release date

At the time of writing this article, an exact date hasn't been revealed, but 'Janet' is reportedly set for a premiere in early 2022. We will update this space once we are updated with further details.

Concept

Janet Jackon's special documentary will celebrate the 40th anniversary of her self-titled album which released in 1982 when the singer was just 16 years old.

Airing over two nights, the four-hour documentary event will give fans an unfiltered look at the icon's life that has never been seen before, boasting features that include exclusive archival footage, celebrity interviews, and home videos. The documentary will also share some of Janet's biggest challenges she's faced in both her longstanding career and personal life from the death of her father and the Jackson family patriarch Joe to the controversy that surrounded her 2004 Super Bowl halftime show performance with Justin Timberlake to the death of her brother Michael Jackson.

Additionally, for fans who enjoy a more intimate look at the person behind the artist, 'Janet' will also share in the singer's life as a mother.

According to reports, the filming for Janet Jackson's documentary has been underway for the past three years, so it will seemingly go in-depth in exploring her story.

'Janet' will be simulcast on both A&E and Lifetime networks.

Creators

'Janet' is executive produced by the singer herself and brother Randy Jackson. You may recognize Randy as one of the former judges of 'American Idol', but his musical hand has extended to many projects including the comedy film 'Cool Runnings', 'The Truth About Cats & Dogs', and more, apart from having writing credits on several The Jacksons songs. Additionally, the documentary is co-produced by Associated Entertainment Corporation and Workerbee's Rick Murray. Brie Miranda Bryant serves as executive producer for A+E networks.

Ben Hirsch serves as the director for 'JANET'. Hirsch is commonly known for his work on the docu-series 'Idris Elba: No Limits', the mini-series 'Armed and Deadly: Police UK', and the docu-series 'Supercar Megabuild'.
