A gang of young scammers, an honest cop and a dirty politician make the recipe for a perfect crime thriller
Inspired by true events, 'Jamtara — Sabka Number Ayega' is the story of India's con center. Set in the dark underbelly of Jharkhand, the series revolves around the phishing scams that take place in the city of Jamtara.
Shedding light on the show, filmmaker Soumendra Padhi said, "The issue of phishing is so common and yet so underrepresented in the media. I've been to Jamtara and spoken to multiple people about how these scams are pulled off. The stories are so real and yet so unbelievable that I knew I had to share them with the world."
The eight-episodic series is all set to premiere on Netflix on January 10.
A 10-part series, 'Jamtara' centers around young, ambitious people who have the world before them. Cousins Sunny and Rocky, along with their friends, run a wildly successful phishing scam from the small village of Jamtara. They scam people across the country over simple phone calls. A news report about the scam catapults the village into the limelight, throwing a spanner in the works when, suddenly, everyone wants a chunk of the prize.
The actor plays dynasty politician Brajesh Bhan in 'Jamtara'. He first got recognition when he played a sting journalist, Prabhat, who is on the verge of committing suicide in Dibakar Banerjee's film 'Love Sex aur Dhokha'.
Aksha Pardasany plays Jamtara SP Dolly Sahu. The actress is known for Telugu films such as 'Yuvatha', 'Ride' and 'Kandireega'.
Other actors in the series include Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sparsh Shrivastav, Monika Panwar, Anshuman Pushkar, Asif Khan, Simran Mishrikoti, Puja Jha and Ravi Sah.
The series has been directed by Soumendra Padhi and written by Trishant Srivastava. Produced by Click on RM and Tipping Point, the show is based on an original concept by Nishank Verma. Ajit Andhare, Manish Trehan of Click on RM, Sarita Patil of Matchbox Pictures, and Kanchan Marathe of Viacom18 Studios are executive producers on 'Jamtara'.
On December 23, Netflix released a trailer for the show and captioned it: "You may not know them but they most definitely have your number already. You're just one phone call away from losing your life savings. Jamtara, premieres on January 10th, only on Netflix."
The second trailer was rolled out on January 5. The 1.41-minute clip shows the state of cybercrime in small towns across India. A young boy makes a fake call to inform a person how he has won a Maruti Car and a few days later, that person calls the bank to know why his card has been blocked.
