Michael B Jordan gives promising ‘Creed IV’ update 2 years after last installment: ‘Eventually…’
Nearly two years have passed since Adonis Creed last stepped into the spotlight, but fans waiting for his next chapter may finally have reason to get excited again. Development on ‘Creed IV’ kicked off back in 2023 following the massive success of ‘Creed III,’ yet updates since then have been scarce. Michael B. Jordan has long said he didn’t want the franchise to rush into another sequel, insisting the series needed space to breathe and audiences needed time to miss the world of Donnie Creed. Now, in a recent Variety interview, the actor has not only confirmed the next entry is still alive but hinted at how far the Rocky spin-off universe might stretch.
Pressed about the status of ‘Creed IV,’ Jordan didn’t hesitate. “Eventually, definitely,” he said, making it clear that the film remains firmly on the roadmap. The actor spoke with unmistakable affection about the character he first brought to life in 2015 under the direction of Ryan Coogler. The original ‘Creed’ became an instant classic. Jordan’s version of Adonis, the determined son of Apollo Creed, quickly became a fan favorite, embodying everything that makes an underdog story hit hard emotionally. By the time ‘Creed III’ arrived, Jordan had added a new credit to his résumé: director.
The film closed on what many considered a fitting endpoint: Donnie reconciling with his childhood friend-turned-rival Dame, played by Jonathan Majors, and stepping back from the ring to embrace family life. It felt like a full-circle moment. But Jordan is adamant there’s still more left to explore, even if Adonis himself isn’t the one throwing the punches next time. He hinted that ‘Creed IV’ could pivot slightly in scope. “It’s a franchise that’s been really kind to me in a big way,” Jordan said, praising MGM and longtime producer Irwin Winkler.
He added, “I think there’s a bit more story to be mined through that. Do I want to be in the ring boxing for the next 15 years? Not so much. But I think there are clever ways and interesting characters we’ve established that we might want to see where that goes, along with some introductions to new ones I have in mind.” While ‘Creed IV’ inches forward, the universe surrounding it is already growing in unexpected ways. As per Collider, earlier this year, Prime Video officially announced ‘Delphi.’ It’s a new series that will spotlight the next generation of fighters training at the same gym that helped shape Adonis Creed into a champion.
The project is designed to broaden the Rocky-Creed mythology, and lay the foundation for future stories that don’t rely solely on Jordan’s character. A Drago-focused spinoff has also been discussed, with Dolph Lundgren and Florian Munteanu expected to reprise their roles as the formidable father-son duo. And perhaps the most intriguing rumor in the mix is a potential project centered around Donnie’s daughter, Amara, played by Mila Davis-Kent. She showed a fierce spark in ‘Creed III’ and could someday pick up her father’s gloves.
