Pixar's ‘Monsters Inc. 3’ gets a major release update and we couldn't be more excited
The monsters are back. Or atleast, word on the street is that Pixar's highly speculated 'Monster Inc. 3' is in development. The news comes on the back of industry insiders affirming that the third movie of the iconic and well-received 'Monsters Inc.' franchise is now a reality. That said, the studio is yet to confirm any details on the progress of the film. The storied franchise began in 2001 with Pete Docter directing the film. The audiences are taken to Monstropolis, where creatures produce energy by scaring the children to produce screams. Things change when James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (John Goodman) and his friend Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) enter the world.
The latest from the universe after two films was a Disney+ series called 'Monsters at Work' in 2021. The story centers around a group of employees, Little (Mindy Kaling), Fritz (Henry Winkler), Duncan P. Anderson (Lucas Neff), and Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), as they go from scaring the children to making them laugh. Crystal and Goodman reprise their roles in the series. At the time of writing, there is no word on when 'Monsters. Inc 3' might release.
In related news, Docter had previously spoken about how the idea of the hit movie came about. "I think the thing that was attractive to everybody was this idea that much like we all secretly harbored a belief that our toys came to life when we weren’t around, we also believed that monsters were living in our closets or basements, Docter told IndieWire. "And at first, they seem like a pain in the butt. But then, as the story goes on, he starts to kind of empathize and ultimately like these guys while he cures himself."
"I would work until all hours of the night and loved what I do. And then suddenly you find yourself saying, 'Wait a minute, there’s this kid at home who just spoke, he sat up for the first time today, and now today he said some word, and I wasn’t there, and how do I do both these things?' It was that struggle between the sort of duty of work and then the love of a kid that really kind of became the heart of what ‘Monsters’ was about." The first film grossed over $528 million to become the third-highest grossing film of 2021. A prequel, 'Monsters University' released in 2013 and fared better than the first, raking in over $743 million worldwide against its $200 million production budget. Now, all eyes will be on the third film as the wait continues.
