‘Reacher’ finds the perfect replacement after creator Lee Child exits show: ‘It’s all his…’
'Jack Reacher' creator Lee Child announced he was stepping away from the successful franchise, which includes books, branding, and all aspects related to his iconic work. With the Child Brothers' latest novel, 'Exit Strategy, ' marking the 30th entry of the series, Lee said the handoff to his younger brother, Andrew, is now complete.
Per Collider, Lee spoke of the handoff, 'It's all his now." This announcement also asks questions about the Prime Video series starring Alan Ritchson as the titular character. The show is headed to its fourth season. However, it's worth noting that Lee's name was the only one on the cover. In 2020, his brother, Andrew, was listed as the co-author on The Sentinel. "My entire ambition was to give the character away," he said.
Earlier, he spoke of the show making the screens after two movies starring Tom Cruise. "That was the huge attraction, doing the long-form narrative that season-long TV gives you," he said. "In the books, Reacher is fleshed out; he is a fully rounded character as much as he can be. With light and shade and loud and quiet. In the books, that’s obvious, but of course, for a short-format adaptation that gets compressed and misses a lot, but we had the time to show it all, and that was one of the things that I was most excited about and also makes it all the more effective."
"My theory is that if you have a relentless non-stop pace, that’s the same thing as having no pace at all," he further added. "What you need is to show the differences; the quiet parts make the action parts even more effective. And so that was the thrill and the fun of doing a whole season on one story. I think it is addictive for a novelist. I can guarantee that if streaming television had been around before, no novelist would ever have chosen anything else, because this works so much better."
Ritchson also teased that the new instalment is the best season yet. At the time of writing, Season 4 doesn't have a release date, but the 'Titan' actor confirmed earlier this month that production was expected to end mid-November.
Seasons 1-3 of 'Reacher' are available for streaming on Prime Video.
