NBC just pulled the plug on ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime,’ leaving fans with one big question
NBC has reportedly canceled ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ after a five-season run. According to Deadline’s exclusive report, published on April 16, 2026, the series won’t return for a sixth season. Fans must remember Christopher Meloni’s iconic lead role, where he played Elliot Stabler, an NYPD Organized Crime Task Force officer. While the four seasons ran on NBC, the show became a Peacock original in its fifth and final season. At the time, fans were not aware that it would be the final show. A year later, Peacock and NBC had finally canceled the show and left the fans disappointed.
’Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Season 5 featured a total of 10 episodes. The storyline revolved around organized crime with Stabler in the center. Some of the cases featured on the show also ran for multiple episodes. One of the possible reasons behind the show’s cancellation might have been the overall performance, compared to the franchise’s other shows. This includes 'One Chicago', 'Law & Order', and ' Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' (SVU). That might have been the reason behind moving the ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ to Peacock for Season 5. Moreover, the storyline for the show’s last season might have been somewhat anticipated, which is why it was on a 10 PM broadcast schedule.
Additional cast members, including Ainsley Seiger, Danielle Moné Truitt, Rick Gonzalez, and Dean Norris, were also part of the show’s last season. Throughout its run, the show had numerous showrunners. It might also have been one of the factors behind the show’s cancellation. Having multiple showrunners might have affected the creative storyline and character development. This included Ilene Chaiken, Barry O’Brien, Sean Jablonski, John Shiban, and more. While Shiban joined the show in its Season 4, previous showrunners include David Graziano and Bryan Goluboff.
As of now, with ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’, it leaves the two mothership shows, 'Law & Order' and 'Law & Order: SVU', still in the running. While 'Law & Order' is currently airing its 25th season, the latter is in its Season 27 run. Long-time fans must know that 'Law & Order' got revived back in 2022 after a 12-year hiatus. World Entertainment and Universal Television are among the producers of ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime.’ Talking about the show’s fifth season, the team of executive producers included John Shiban, Mike Slovis, Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Peter Jankowski, Tim Walsh, and Meloni. In his July 6, 2020, interview with the New York Post, Meloni mentioned that there was no issue with the show creator or the associated team. “I left with zero animosity, but I did leave clearly and open-eyed in going forward and finding new adventures,” he added. Meloni will be next seen in an upcoming NFL drama, 'The Land', on Hulu.
