The mid-season finale of 'High Potential' Season 2 left fans on the edge with the jaw-dropping revelation that Morgan Gillory's (Kaitlin Olson) new love interest, Rhys (Aiden Turner), could potentially be an art thief. Now, with season 2 resuming on Tuesday, January 6, the stakes are higher than ever. However, it's not only the intriguing storyline that makes the wait for new episodes feel unbearable, as 'Dexter' alum James Martinez's appearance in the new episodes is adding even more to the anticipation.

In a preview of the Tuesday, January 6 episode, Us Weekly revealed that Martinez joins the ongoing mystery of a missing painting, a case previously explored in October 2025 when Morgan and Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) investigated the heist amid interference from boss Nick Wagner (Steve Howey) and art recovery specialist Rhys. The official synopsis teases rising tension as Morgan grows increasingly suspicious of Rhys while the search for the missing Rembrandt continues. Additionally, Roman's missing backpack creates new complications for everyone involved.

Ahead of the show's return, Judy Reyes, who plays the character of Selena Soto, the head of the Major Crimes Division, had shared her excitement about the appearance of her friend Martinez on 'High Potential. "I'm proud of that, and I'm excited about his episode," she said. On the other hand, showrunner Todd Harthan teased major guest appearances in the second half of the season, saying, "The choices we've had for casting have been incredible," and adding that viewers can expect "some really exciting guest stars."

Harthan praised the show's guest casting, saying, "These actors have been just incredible. They can come into our show and hang with our wonderful cast and just add their own flavor to our world. It's been exciting, and you'll see there's some really cool people popping in." Notably, the ABC comedy-crime drama centers on Morgan, a sharp-witted single mother with an extraordinary intellect and an unconventional approach to problem-solving. Her unique abilities land her a job as a consultant for the LAPD's Major Crimes Division, which leads to an unlikely partnership with rule-following detective Karadec.

Together, they tackle complex cases while navigating personal and professional dynamics within the LAPD, as per Mass Live. The series stars Olson as Morgan, alongside Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, and Reyes, and continues to build momentum as Season 2 resumes with higher stakes and deepening mysteries.
