Is ‘Five Star Weekend’ based on a book? Teaser hints at major twist as Peacock show sets new release date
A new beachside drama is heading to the small screen sooner than expected. Peacock confirmed that ‘The Five Star Weekend’ will now premiere on July 9, moving its release date up by a week. At the center of it all is Jennifer Garner, who steps into the role of Hollis Shaw. She is a well-known food personality and author whose life takes a turn after she loses her husband. The story doesn’t tiptoe around grief. It portrays how deeply it affects her personal life, including her relationship with her daughter. The series draws from Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling book, released in June 2023, and the adaptation stretches across eight episodes. It keeps the original idea intact but brings it to life with a talented cast and scenic coastal visuals.
Hollis, trying to regain some sense of control, decides to host a special getaway in Nantucket. She invites one close friend from each phase of her life: Childhood, her 20s, her 30s, and one unexpected addition. Her circle includes D’Arcy Carden as Brooke, Regina Hall as Dru-Ann, Chloë Sevigny as Tatum, and Gemma Chan as Gigi. The official teaser gives a glimpse of what’s coming. Sunlit beaches, laughter, and picture-perfect moments, but they don’t last long. “This weekend is for the five of us. A weekend of five-star treatment,” Hollis narrates in the clip. At first glance, it looks like an escape, but the cracks soon start to show.
When Tatum checks in with Hollis, asking, “Are you doing okay?” the response feels rushed and a bit too cheerful. “Yep, forgot the whipped cream.” The friends don’t ignore what’s going on, though. They try to pull Hollis out of that emotional fog. In one scene, Gigi says, “He's gone, and now you have to live.” “I am trying,” Hollis responds. But Hollis isn’t the only one with something to hide. As the teaser continues, it becomes clear that everyone at the house is carrying secrets. The teaser sees Brooke asking the other ladies a tough question: “Doesn't she deserve to know the truth even if it would hurt?” Dru-Ann confronts Gigi, asking, “Are you going to tell me what's really going on?”
Another twist comes when Hollis unexpectedly crosses paths with someone from her past, played by Timothy Olyphant. Their interaction doesn’t go unnoticed. Her daughter, Caroline Shaw (Harlow Jane), watches from a distance, and she’s far from impressed. There’s also a fun surprise in store for viewers. Jenna Bush Hager will appear in a cameo role. She joked during the reveal, “I may quit and become an actor,” before confirming that she’s essentially playing herself, as per TODAY. The supporting cast includes other familiar faces, like Judy Greer, who previously worked with Garner on ‘13 Going on 30’. Alongside her, actors such as Tory Devon Smith, Rob Huebel, David Denman, Josh Hamilton, West Duchovny, Morrison Keddie, and Roberta Colindrez also play pivotal roles.
