Finn Wolfhard confirms return to ‘It’ universe as he hints at something bigger after ‘Stranger Things’ finale
Mike Wheeler may have found a bittersweet ending in 'Stranger Things,' but but Finn Wolfhard’s Hollywood journey has only just begun. Wolfhard, who played the character of Mike in the hit series, was widely praised for his stellar acting and strong screen presence. While the show may have ended, fans can now look forward to seeing Wolfhard in a high-octane horror franchise, and honestly, we can't wait.
In a recent Esquire interview, Wolfhard revealed his involvement in a new project connected to the 'IT' franchise. Wolfhard, who previously starred as Richie Tozier in the 2017 horror hit 'IT,' appeared in the prequel 'IT: Welcome to Derry,' portraying the son of Marge (Matilda Lawler). In the last episode, it was shown that Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) senses Marge's son will be connected to the events leading to his death.
Discussing his return to the 'IT' universe, Wolfhard revealed, "When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021. Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, 'You're involved.' Yeah, I'm connected. I think there's something else that will come up eventually that I'm excited for people to see." In addition to that, Wolfhard is all set to act in a movie, 'Crash Land.' Reportedly, Wolfhard serves as both actor and producer of the movie. The film follows a chaotic group of amateur stunt performers in a small town, reminiscent of 'Jackass,' and will be the feature directorial debut of Dempsey Bryk. The cast also includes Gabriel LaBelle, Abby Quinn, and Noah Parker.
Additionaly, Wolfhard is teaming up with Billy Bryk to co-write and potentially co-direct a modern reimagining of the 1999 cult horror classic 'Idle Hands' for Sony Pictures, according to a 2024 Variety report. This project will be another collaboration between Wolfhard and Bryk, who previously co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in the 2025 horror-comedy 'Hell of a Summer.' Fans can expect Wolfhard to bring his signature energy and dark humor to this new take on the original film.
Wolfhard is also working on a movie adaptation of 'Trouble Boys: The True Story of The Replacements,' based on Bob Mehr's 2016 biography, alongside his father, Eric Wolfhard, and producer Rich Peete, as reported by Variety. In addition, his 2026 plans will focus on music, including touring and new releases, with his manager Nick Stern noting, "For Finn, we’re really just getting started."
