After the massive success of its first-ever animated series ‘Undone’ in 2019, Amazon Prime Video is coming out with another animated series titled ‘Invincible’ featuring the voices of some of the biggest Hollywood stars of this generation. The series is stacked with Hollywood A-listers like Yeun, JK Simmons, Sanda Oh, Mark Hamill, and more.

The upcoming show is based on the comic-book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman and chronicles the journey of Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yeun, a 17-year-old boy who is living his life as a normal teenager. His father Nolan, voiced by JK Simmons, is the most powerful superhero on the planet. As Mark grows older, he starts developing powers of his own and wants to take his father’s legacy forward.

However, things change dramatically when Mark finds out that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems. The hour-long adult animated series is surely going to satisfy those waiting for more super-bloody superhero shenanigans.

Release date

The first three episodes of ‘Invincible’ will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on March 26, 2021, with new episodes airing week-to-week on Fridays thereafter.

Plot

The series tells the story of Mark Grayson, a 17-year-old boy who is learning about his superhero powers. His father, Nolan, is the most powerful superhero on the planet and fights evil. As Mark starts to develop his own power, he learns that his father’s legacy might not be as heroic as it seems.

The official synopsis reads: “Invincible is an hour-long, adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.”

Cast

Steven Yeun

Yeun will be lending his voice to the main protagonist of the show, Mark Grayson aka Invincible. This is not the first time that the actor will be voicing a character in an animated series. Yeun has been a part of various animated sitcoms like ‘The Legend of Korra’, ‘American Dad!’, ‘Voltron: Legendary Defenders’, and more.

His film credits include ‘Okja’, ‘Mayhem’, and ‘Sorry to Bother You’. Yeun can currently be seen in the critically-acclaimed movie ‘Minari’ which is considered to be a frontrunner for the best picture race at this year’s Academy Awards.

JK Simmons

An actor par excellence, Simmons will be voicing Nolan in the upcoming series. The actor has been a part of the industry since 1987 and did some really good work during his initial years. However, he gained prominence with his portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy. He also played a major role in the 2009 movie ‘Up in the Air’ alongside George Clooney.

However, his moment of glory came in 2014 with the movie ‘Whiplash’. He played the character of music instructor Terence Fletcher in the film and went on to win an Oscar in the best supporting actor category.

Since then, he has appeared in films like ‘La La Land’, ‘The Accountant’, ‘Justice League’, ‘Palm Springs’ and more.

Sandra Oh

One of the accomplished actresses on television, Sandra Oh is also not new to the world of animated shows. She has given voice-overs in shows like ‘The Proud Family’, ‘American Dad!’, ‘American Dragon: Jake Long’, ‘Sesame Street’, ‘Robot Chicken’ and ‘Peg + Cat’. Apart from the aforementioned show, Oh is best known for her starring roles as Cristina Yang in the medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and Eve Polastri in the spy thriller series ‘Killing Eve’.

The actress has won 2 Golden Globes in her illustrious career. She received her first award in 2005 for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and waited for 14 long years to get her hands on the second one in 2019 for ‘Killing Eve’.

Mark Hamill

Hamill was a part of everyone’s childhood and if you don’t know what are we talking about then it seems the “force was never with you.” He gained prominence after playing the role of Luke Skywalker in the blockbuster hit movie series ‘Star Wars’.  Hamill has also appeared on stage in several theater productions, primarily during the 1980s.

‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’, ‘Batman: Arkham City’ and ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ are some of the video games he has appeared as the Joker.

Creators

Created by Robert Kirkman, ‘Invincible’ follows the journey of a 17-year-old boy developing powers and getting to know the real identity of his father. The show is produced by Maude Lewis. Meanwhile, Simon Racioppa, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Catherine Winder will serve as executive producers.
