Internet furious after Annie Lennox's live Grammys performance 'cut off' over singer's plea for ceasefire in Gaza
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Annie Lennox became the first artist at Grammys 2024 to address the Gaza ceasefire. After her memorial performance, the songwriter took a moment to address the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
She mentioned Artist for Ceasefire in her statement while paying an emotional ode to Sinead O'Connor. As she called for a Gaza Ceasefire in her statement, CBS cut the political activist's mic. This left people on the internet furious.
One tweeted, "Annie Lennox covering Sinead O’Connor then yelling out for a CEASEFIRE at the end of her performance." Another slammed Grammys, "Can’t believe the Grammys just cut off Annie Lennox for calling for a ceasefire during her performance…thank you Annie for using your platform! shame on you recording academy #Grammys."
One shocked viewer tweeted, "holy s**t did @CBS just cut from Annie Lennox and cut her mic because she called for #CEASEFIRE_NOW while Sinead’s photo was up." Another wrote, "Annie Lennox is the GOAT. Calling for a #ceasefire live on the #Grammys."
Another slammed Grammys, "I'm operating under the knowledge that the #GRAMMYs are out of touch. The fact just one artist, Annie Lennox has called for a ceasefire confirms that fact. But Annie is never out of touch. Thank you Annie."
Another wrote, "Annie Lennox making a strong political statement during her tribute to Sinead O’Connor is honestly the best thing she could have done to celebrate the artist and activist Sinead was!"
