LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty on Friday, December 23, by a Los Angeles jury for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. He was charged with one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner to cause bodily injury. What is the length of the sentence that the rapper would have to serve in prison?

Alex Spiro, Megan's attorney told CBS News, "The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg." Many of her supporters rejoiced with the verdict. As for the 30-year-old Canadian rapper, he could face a sentence of more than 20 years in prison and possible deportation back to Canada. The 'Hot Girl Summer' singer testified at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles against Lanez on December 13, 2022, revealing that the rapper yelled, "Dance, b***h!" and shot her three times in the foot. Tory was found guilty after seven hours of deliberations and was taken into custody almost immediately. He faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months.

Megan's fans are also pushing for the prosecution of her ex-best friend Kelsey Harris who was present that night. She denied seeing Tory shoot Megan and refused to answer any questions regarding the shooting. Kelsey was granted immunity by the prosecution. District Attorney Gascón praised Megan Thee Stallion's bravery saying, "I want to start by highlighting the bravery of Megan Pete. You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve. You faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should ever face and you have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation."

Gascón continued, "Women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault and sexual violence because they are too often not believed. This trial, for the second time this month, highlighted the numerous ways that our society must do better for women. I’d also like to thank the jurors for their time and thoughtful deliberation, and our trial team for their tireless pursuit of the truth. You spent countless hours away from your families during the holiday season preparing this case and finding justice for Ms. Pete. Your sacrifice is appreciated."
