LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been found guilty of shooting fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The 30-year-old now faces more than 20 years in prison after a jury in Los Angeles convicted him of felony negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. During the trial, Megan testified that she was shot and wounded at the party in the Hollywood Hills on 12 July 2020 and needed surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet. It seems like the rapper's fans are not too happy with the verdict. As they claim there was not sufficient evidence to convict Tory Lanez.

As the verdict was read out, Lanez showed no reaction. He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 27 January. Megan and Lanez were apparently in an intimate relationship prior to this incident. Tory Lanez's father reportedly caused chaos inside and outside the courtroom after his son was found guilty. "A crazy and downright scary scene in the courtroom as his father and stepmother screamed about wicked injustice," Senior reporter for Law & Crime Meghann Cuniff tweeted. "Tory Lanez’s father stood up guest and screamed. 'This is a wicked system!' He screamed at the prosecutors that they are evil and they know exactly what they did here. His stepmother stood up screaming and yelling. Father was yelling about 'Roc Nation.'"

Tory Lanez's fans were also not happy with the court's decision. One fan said, "We all know that Tory didn’t shoot her. He’s innocent and should be free’d". Another fan added, "I knew megan was lying on this innocent black man." "After having no proof if he actually did it and still saying he’s guilty is crazy", added one fan while another tweeted, "Twen tee tree years with the evidence that was provided that’s crazy, how they come to this verdict with what they had." One fan tweeted, "I never seen something more rigged in my life."

"The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg", said one of Megan's lawyers after the case concluded according to BBC News. Lanez denied all the charges pressed on him since the beginning and his lawyer, George Mgdesyan, unsuccessfully argued that the investigation had been botched. “Megan Pete is a liar. She lied about everything in this case from the beginning,” Mgdesyan said, according to The Guardian. “She lied under oath here.”

In 2009, Lanez began releasing mixtapes and saw a steady rise in popularity. His last two albums reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s charts. At the time of the shooting, Megan Thee Stallion was already a major rising star. She won a Grammy for best new artist in 2021, and had No 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with her own song 'Savage,' featuring Beyoncé, and as a guest on Cardi B’s 'WAP.'
