Spoilers for 'In the Dark' Season 2 Episode 9 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Dying'

So much happened in this week's episode of 'In the Dark' that we were left confused as to where the CW show is going with its second season. However, one event that transpired that has brought collective joy is that Max Parish (Casey Deidrick) is finally out of prison, but this being a CW show, there are many strings attached. For one, Dean Riley (Rich Sommer) dropped the charges and pretended that he wanted to help Murphy Mason (Perry Mattfeld) by saying he got kicked out of the case. Dean knows how much Max and Murphy care for each other, and again, he is trying to manipulate those emotions to work in his favor. When Max meets Murphy later, he has got a wire on him, with both Dean and his partner listening in.

On the other hand, this week's episode finally saw Murphy sleep with IRS officer Josh Wallace (Theodore Bhat), with whom she had grown to be friends with as she helped him navigate going blind. Of course, sleeping with Josh came with the benefit of knowing he was close to busting Nia Bailey (Nicki Micheaux), and this could turn on Murphy someday. While fans are glad that Max is out of prison, they are worried about Dean's involvement in it. One fan tweeted, "Max getting released only goes to show you he probably shouldn't have been in there in the first place. #InTheDark." Another wrote, "Dean his literally lied and played them all and been a dick this entire time. Do you know when he's lying? When his lips are moving. Don't fall for this. #InTheDark."

One fan opined, "If Max actually thinks this through he should figure out that if Dean actually had enough to take Murphy down like that, he wouldn't need Max the first place. Be smart, bro. #InTheDark." Another tweeted, "Dean is ALWAYS using their love to play and manipulate Max and Murphy. It's so annoying and redundant. #InTheDark." However, fans have grown to love Josh and hope that Max's return does not mean heartbreak for Josh. One fan tweeted, "Poor Josh. He doesn't know Murphy doesn't like hi I'm as much as he likes her. #InTheDark," while another tweeted, "So basically, Josh sleeping with Murphy out of nowhere despite them being friends all this time only happened because Max is out of prison now and "drama." #InTheDark." A fan opined, "I don't hate this DEA guy but Murphy is supposed to be in love with Max so I don't know if I like her sleeping with this dude. It feels like a betrayal but it's also "so" Murphy. #InTheDark."

'In the Dark' airs on The CW on Thursday nights at 9/8c.
