UPDATED SEP 13, 2019

The new season of FX show 'American Crime Story' is set to explore the controversial Clinton–Lewinsky scandal and the ensuing events that shook Bill Clinton's presidency to its foundations.

The third season, titled 'Impeachment', is based on Jeffrey Toobin's book 'A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President'. The production is set to begin in February. It has been announced that Hillary Clinton will appear as a character in the series, but she won't have a significant role.

FX Networks and Productions Chairman John Landgraf spoke about the show's history of dealing with complex stories saying, "This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced and entertaining."

The new season is slated to premiere on September 27, 2020, on FX.

Plot

The third season of 'American Crime Story' revolves around the impeachment of US President Bill Clinton.

In 1994, Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state employee, filed a lawsuit accusing Clinton of sexual harassment when he was governor of Arkansas. On October 8, 1998, the United States House of Representatives voted to commence impeachment proceedings against the 42nd president for "high crimes and misdemeanors."

"'Impeachment: American Crime Story' will explore the overlooked aspects of the process and of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency," Landgraf said while speaking about the new season.
