The annual SDCC saw the unveiling of 'I Am Groot' which is set to premiere on August 10, 2022, on Disney+. This will be a five-part animated short series featuring the adorable Guardians of the Galaxy character engaging in his usual hijinks and dancing his way through new worlds.
Vin Diesel will be featuring in the series as the voice actor for Baby Groot. The series is set to explore Baby Groot’s adventures across the galaxy away from the Guardians. 'I Am Groot' is the first Guardians spin-off with another offshoot, 'Guardians of the Galaxy-Christmas', to hit Disney+ later this year.

Vin Diesel made a mark in action films before 'Groot' fame
In 2000, Diesel bagged his breakthrough role as the anti-hero Riddick in the science-fiction film 'Pitch Black'.
By 2007, Diesel was set to produce and star as Agent 47 in the film adaptation of the video game 'Hitman', but eventually pulled back and served as executive producer on the film instead. Diesel reprised his role as Dominic Toretto in installments five through nine of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise — 'Fast Five '(2011), 'Fast & Furious 6' (2013), 'Furious 7' (2015), 'Fate of the Furious' (2017), and 'F9' (2021). In September 2020, Diesel announced he was venturing into music, with the release of the song, 'Feel Like I Do', produced by Kygo. He has been the voice of Groot since the character was introduced in the 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe film 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.
What is Vin Diesel's character about?
Vin Diesel will be giving voice to Baby Groot, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who is a tree-like alien. While recording this voice, it is reported the 'Fast and Furious' actor spoke in several different languages, including Russian, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French so that they could use his real voice in the film worldwide.
Considering the difficulty in making the character of a talking tree memorable by speaking only three words "I am Groot," it is quite impressive to note how well the character has done in the MCU's cast of superheroes. In an interview with the Guardian, Vin Diesel commented on the same, "It appealed to the thespian in me. You’re talking about a very challenging character to pull off. How could you really create a whole character with three words? To really bring the emotion and chart the arc." Despite the actor’s insistence that the role requires a lot of effort, many fans are baffled that the actor will be getting paid millions just to say "I am Groot".
One fan tweeted, "Vin Diesel getting paid millions to say the same 3 words over and over while the rest of the country struggles to afford rent is hilarious, in a depressing sort of way". Another user tweeted, "Is there any bigger W in the world than Vin Diesel picking up a cheque for saying three words over and over in different ways? Not saying it is easy but what a W #IAmGroot".
