Hulu's 'Candy' Episode 2 reveals the beginning of the affair between Candy Montgomery (Jessica Biel) and Allan Gore (Pablo Schreiber) behind Betty's (Melanie Lynskey) back. It was the usual story of a woman finding a new love interest after the present relationship leads to nowhere and has lost its charm. From this perspective, Candy's feelings of lust (at least that's how the series portrays it) and hope that she finds a potential partner who acknowledges her feelings are justified as her husband tends to stay ignorant in their relationship.

The episode shows that Candy's feelings towards Allan start after they meet to play volleyball. The town's residents are shown to meet for practice every week and in one of the sessions, we see an already depressed Candy look for love and she finds that in Betty's husband — an active athlete with quite the looks. The final minutes see her confess her feelings to him and even kiss him as a dumbfounded Allan watches. The chapter hints at Candy's unhappy life, especially after her husband unwittingly brushes aside her feelings.

'Candy' Episode 2 Review: Intriguing chapter explores the beginning of Candy's wild affair

Hulu 'Candy': Where is Candy Montgomery now and did she kill Betty Gore?

The affair came with consequences, but with three episodes left in the series, expect the third chapter to be all about the burgeoning romance between the two. For Allan, the reason to perhaps agree to have an affair would be to solely get away from a Betty whose anxiety gets the better of her in almost every situation. That said, the two have a baby, months leading up to her death and that makes for an interesting storyline — Was Allan Gore a man who wanted the best of both worlds?

Tracing back to the first episode, Betty's lack of response makes Allan partly guilty and partly worried. This just adds more intrigue to the series. Whether he was aware that his wife knew of his affair is something that the remainder of the series will answer.

'Candy' Episode 3 drops on Hulu on Wednesday, May 11, at 9 pm PT.
