LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hugh Jackman paid his friend, Russell Crowe, the ultimate compliment on Friday when he said he 'owed' the man his career. The Australian actor, aged 54, shared an interview on Instagram featuring his close friend, a New Zealand-born actor aged 59. In the interview, the friend disclosed that he was responsible for getting the younger actor the role of Wolverine in the 'X-Men' films, which proved to be his breakthrough role. The younger actor expressed gratitude for his friend's continuous support throughout his career, acknowledging him as a "good man and a great friend."
During the Daily Mail interview shared by Jackman, Crowe mentioned that he had suggested Jackman for the role of Wolverine after he turned down the part himself. Russell explained that he declined the role as the character did not resemble him based on the art and other materials shown to him. However, he noted that the character's appearance was very similar to that of Jackman, prompting him to recommend the former for the role. He quoted, "Russell said, 'I also suggested [Hugh] for [Wolverine], too,' after revealing he turned down the role." Crowe then said, "Because they showed me art and stuff like that, and it's like it doesn't look like me. But I tell you who it looks like, I said it looks like Hugh Jackman," as quoted by Jackman.
