NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hugh Jackman provided yet another health update while urging everyone to wear sunscreen. The 54-year-old Australian actor had two biopsies performed after his doctor found "little things" that might be basal cell carcinoma, the most prevalent type of skin cancer.

The 'Wolverine' actor had six skin tumors removed from his face in a two-year procedure in 2017. After a biopsy in 2021, the results were inconclusive and the worst that could happen was basal cell carcinoma. In an Instagram video posted on Monday, April 4, the Golden Globe winner urged his 31.1 million followers to "put some sunscreen on," while also showing a bandage on his nose from the recent biopsies, reports the Daily Mail.

'Please wear sunscreen'

Jackman revealed the news in a video on his social media platforms while sporting a bandage over his nose and asked his followers to practice sun protection. He began the video by saying, "Hey guys. So, I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever."

"I've just had two biopsies done. I just went to my doctor, Dr Iron, who's awesome. I'll find out in two or three days and as soon as I know, I'll let you know. Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all."

Jackman acknowledged that the sun spots on his skin that have been removed recently are remnants of his 25-year-old outdoor activities. After that, he urged the audience to use caution when spending time in the sun, especially for northern hemisphere summer fans.

"Please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it," Jackman continued to say. "No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me." 'The Greatest Showman' star added, "Put some sunscreen on. You'll still have an incredible time out there, alright? Please be safe."

Jackman noted in his caption that he had previously been honest about his scary moments with skin cancer, adding that it doesn't concern him as long as it serves to urge people to apply sunscreen.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, basal cell carcinoma, the most prevalent type of skin cancer, is brought on by "abnormal, uncontrolled growth of basal cells" and, when detected and treated early, is usually curable.

Hugh Jackman's past cancer scares

The actor from 'The Prestige' previously battled skin cancer, which required at least six treatments to remove. In 2013, after his wife prompted him to get an odd growth examination, he was found to have cancer. "A couple of notes: please get skin checks often, please don't think it can't happen to you and, above all, please wear sunscreen," the celebrity tweeted at the time. The actor made it clear that the little bandage on his nose was for the biopsy test in the video that went along with it by removing his face mask.

The 'Wolverine' actor received treatment for basal cell carcinoma in November 2013. Jackman then disclosed his battle with cancer by saying, "It's the new normal for me. My doctor says I'll likely have more, and if that's your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky."

He revealed in an interview with People in 2015, "It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word cancer. Being an Australian it's a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it." The actor received 80 stitches in his nose after having the malignant cells surgically removed.
