SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Hollywood veteran Russell Crowe displayed his kindness after he paid a tribute to a ‘Gladiator’ fan who lost her mother last year due to Covid-19. The 58-year-old actor, who portrayed the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius in 2000’s iconic historical drama, was moved after the fan shared a heartbreaking message on Twitter, revealing her late mother watched ‘Gladiator’ every Christmas for the past 22 years.

The fan wrote, "22 years ago today I got Gladiator on DVD. For the last 22 years straight it's been our Christmas day movie." She added, "Me and my mum loved it. I lost her to Covid late last year, so today I'm sitting down and carrying on the tradition alone. Thanks for the memories, Russell Crowe."

Crowe soon responded to the message with a tweet reading, "Merry Christmas. Sorry for your loss." His compassion was immediately lauded by fans, with one saying, "So nice of you to take the time and reach out to her. I am sure that made her day and made being without her mum a little easier to take today." "You are a good man," another added. 'Gladiator' is undoubtedly one of the most triumphant ventures of Crowe’s magnificent career. He even won the Best Actor Oscar in 2001 for his portrayal of a Roman general turned gladiator.

Crowe's act of kindness came days after he paid homage to a cherished King's Cross resident, Aunty Roslyn "Rosie" Whittaker, who aged 61 on Sunday, December 18. Whittaker, who was part of the 'Stolen Generations', lived on the streets of inner-city suburb Potts Point for decades and was known by locals for her vibrant personality and kindness.

The ‘Robin Hood’ star, who was also a King's Cross resident for years, told The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday that Rosie's death affected him and his family deeply. "Whenever I saw Rosie, I'd give her a hug and slip her some cash and ask how she was going," he said. Crowe, 58, added Whittaker would often ask about his family and sons, Charles, 18, and Tennyson, 16, with former wife Danielle Spencer, saying: "She was a lovely soul, her hugs were deep and warm. I will miss her."

Last month, Crowe also opened up about the death of his beloved father, John, who died in early 2021. "My father passed away early in 2021. The most usual conversation you have with people when you’re sharing that information is that if they’ve had the same sort of experience, of one of their parents passing, they lament. If only I had one more weekend or one more dinner party or something. In truth, I’d had 12 months of being with my dad," Crowe told Metro Newspaper.
