How many Jasons exist on 'Dark Matter'? Fans left completely befuddled
Contains spoilers for 'Dark Matter'
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: If you have been following Apple TV+'s latest sci-fi series 'Dark Matter', chances are that you must have been as much puzzled and excited as the rest of us.
As Joel Edgerton starrer approaches finale, new twist has been introduced, setting the stage for the final showdown.
Up until now, fans believed that Jason 1 would have to fight Jason 2 once he reached the OG reality and the adventures would end right there.
However, in Episode 8, we were introduced to many versions of Jason arriving together in Reality 1 with the same motive- to reclaim their life from Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly). With this plot twist, fans are left wondering how many Jasons are actually there in 'Dark Matter'.
Infinite Jasons exist in Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter'
Very early in the series, we learned that Jason Dessen split into two, 15 years ago, when he had to choose between his career and love. But this also lays the foundation that a new Jason was created every time Jason made a new decision in his life.
With the box in the play, there are infinite realities and thus, infinite Jasons exist. Infact, Jason 1 was split into many after the abduction as well. This is why he saw a version of him getting killed by Leighton Vance in another reality.
He even witnessed more Jasons as he travelled through multiple realities, including the one where a version of him was sleeping with Daniela and he met their son, Max.
After the abduction incident, there isn't a single OG Jason. All of them have been married to Daniela and have a child together. All of them were wronged by Jason 2 and they all are equally desperate to return to Daniela.
In Episode 8, we see at least five versions of Jason: Jason 1 (who meets Daniela at the police station), Jason 2 (the one who abducted Jason 1), Jason 3 (who was killed at night on the road) and Jason 4 (who was killed at the college campus) and Jason 5 (who met with a car accident).
There could be more Jasons and they are not going to make things any easier for OG Jason.
Puzzled fans react to the big twist in 'Dark Matter' Episode 8
Fans were quite confused when multiple Jasons arrived in the narrative together, making it hard to guess who's the original one whom they have been rooting for since the beginning.
An attempt to count the number of Jasons has been going on to decode the fate of OG Jason.
A curious viewer took to Reddit and asked his fellow fans, "If you watch episode seven with audio, the gun store scene describes a Jason six !!! Here we are trying to figure out if we were dealing with Jasons one and two. But there are six Jasons?!?"
In an attempt to count, a fan commented, "I've rewatched the episodes that you've referenced to see how the AD narrator describes each Jason. Jason - the original, Jason2 - the impostor, Jason3 - episode 4: the one who did not get away, Jason4 - <unknown>, Jason5 - Episode 7: sleeping Jason, Jason6 - Episode 7: second guy buying a gun."
Another added that Jason 4 is the one who "died in plague world".
However, someone joined the thread to explain, "The fact that J1 saw a version of himself not escape J2s world shows you that splitting into new worlds happens even after J1 has left his own world. The nature of the book and Quantum mechanics isn’t that all these worlds just exist but that they come into existence when a new quantum event happens."
"An infinite number of J2s kidnap an infinite number of J1s across infinite realities. And now they're all trying to make it back home. Their paths are gonna cross an infinite number of times," wrote another.
Why infinite Jasons couldn't arrive in Reality 1 in 'Dark Matter'?
Despite the existence of infinite Jasons, only a handful of them have arrived in Reality 1. This is because many versions of Jason were not married to Daniela, many were not even abducted.
Coming to the versions created after the abduction, not everyone would have made it through the multiverse adventure. As portrayed, one of them was killed by Leighton. Some may have given up on the idea of returning. Some may have died in an apocalypse world and a version of Jason may have stayed with Amanda as well.
