ATCHAFALAYA BASIN, LOUISIANA: 'Swamp People' Season 15 will premiere on History on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 8/7 c.

On August 22, 2010, History aired the first episode of this American reality series. The show is based on the life of alligator hunters who shoot alligators for a living in the wetlands of the Atchafalaya River Basin. Pat Duke is the show's narrator.

The show has a 6.4/10 IMDb rating and is well-liked by its target audience. It now has 14 seasons, with a new one on the way.

In the long 14 seasons, some cast members of 'Swamp People' lost their lives while others had near-death experiences. 

Mitchell Guist was an alligator hunter who instantly became a fan favorite in the show. He would be featured regularly hunting for alligator gar, catfish, crayfish, bullfrog, and many others. He died on May 14, 2012, after suffering an accident on Belle River near Pierre Prat. He appeared in 'Swamp People' Season 2 and 3.

Randy Edwards, son of son of Theresa and Junior Edwards, a famous alligator hunter died on September 15, 2018. He appeared in 'Swamp People Season 1, 3 to 6.

The four-legged friend of Bruce Mitchell and his all-time gator hunting partner, Tyler, a dog, died in 2014. He was a part of the 'Swamp People' Season 1 to 5. 

Tommy Chauvin too met with a near-death experience in an automobile accident in 2019.

How did Mitchell Guist of 'Swamp People' die?

Mitchell Guist appeared in the second and third seasons of the History Channel show, which chronicles alligator hunting season in Louisiana's Atchafalaya River Basin. Glenn Guist, his older brother, also participated in the show.

Mitchell suffered a seizure while working on his yacht with an undisclosed second individual. He tripped and fell into the boat. They were on the Belle River around 75 miles outside of New Orleans.

That person, who did not want to be identified, brought the boat to the landing, began CPR, and called Mitchell's wife, Janet Kliebert. As a result, she dialed 911, and he was taken to Teche Regional Medical Centre in Morgan City.

He was pronounced dead there. Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack revealed the autopsy findings just a few days after Mitchell died. He claimed that 'natural causes' were to blame. Mitchell Guist passed away on May 14, 2012.

Glenn stayed with Swamp People for several more seasons after losing his brother and was last seen in Season 11 in 2020.

The 'Voddo Bayou' episode of 'Swamp People' originally aired on May 17, 2012, and was dedicated to his memory.

How did Randy Edwards of 'Swamp People' die?

Another tragedy hit the 'Swamp People' cast after several years when Randy Edwards passed away at the age of 65. 

He lost his life in a car accident. On September 15, 2018, at 3 am Randy lost control of his car and crashed in a utility pole. He died in Iberville, LA.

How did four-legged cast member 'Tyler' of 'Swamp People' die?

Tyler, an important four-legged cast member, Bruce Mitchell's pet dog passed away in 2014. Known as the 'Swamp Dog' he accompanied his owner to many gator huntings. 

Bruce's wife Janet Mitchell revealed that Tyler had congestive heart failure.

Tommy Chauvin of 'Swamp People' met with a near-death experience

Tommy was seriously injured in a car accident. Joe LaFont was also in the car with him but he seemed to escape with minor injuries. Four vehicles including Tommy's had come to a stop for a flagman directing the traffic around a construction site on the highway. Everything was okay until a fifth ain't tractor came along and smashed the cars. This incident happened on July 11, 2019.

The blast injury was so severe that there was a gofundme page opened for raising some amount of medical bill expenses.
