How is 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Season 2 different from the books?
That 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Season 2 is based on 'The Sea of Monsters' is well-documented. That said, there are a few changes in the adaptation. From adding new characters to ringing in some changes from the book, there have been significant differences in what has been observed so far.
Season 2 begins with Percy waking up after a nightmare about Grover in grave danger, much like the book. There are still major differences, however, as it shows him in a jungle where he meets a team of Demigods like Alison Simms (Beatrice Kitsos) as opposed to being in Florida. This suggests Percy has to deal with more demigods to deal with.
Up next are the changes with Tyson (Daniel Diemer), Percy's Cyclops half-brother. In the books, he attends Meriwether College Preo with Percy and is unhoused. The series sees him taken in by Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) and gets him into Merriwether.
Those who hoped for Percy and Annabeth chemistry come with a fair dose of disappointment for the fans. With the latter planning to sabotage Percry in the chariot race, and later suggesting the plan to search for the Golden Fleece without him, adds more drama between the two. Despite the multiple twists, the result is still the trip setting out to the Sea of Monsters in what promises to be a challenging journey ahead.
For Percy fans yet to catch the new season, the official logline reads, "In the second season, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood a year later, where he learns that it is under threat from the forces of Kronos and Grover has gone missing, and must venture into the Sea of Monsters to find the Golden Fleece." The cast includes Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer.
Earlier, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly alongside his fellow co-stars Scobell, Jeffries, and Goodjohn, Simhadri candidly spoke about the second season of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians', saying, "It's going to be a lot bigger, a lot more epic, a lot wetter. I haven't been dry in a year or two. I mean, I love what I do, but this sucks. All of my clothes are constantly soaking wet all the time."
Meanwhile, speaking of the main trio of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, Jeffries said, "I love the first season, but it was just the three of us fighting huge monsters. This season, it are several quests going on at once. It almost felt like everything was a complete upgrade."
'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Season 2 is currently streaming on Disney+, with a new episode dropping every week.
