How did Darrell Sheets die? Inside ‘Storage Wars’ star’s health issues and heartbreaking final days
Darrell Sheets' death has taken the world by surprise. Sheets was part of 'Storage Wars' from 2010 to 2023 and featured in 163 episodes. The show was all about bidding on abandoned storage units, and he earned the nickname 'The Gambler' because he often overbid on things based on instinct. After Brandi Passante, he was the longest-standing cast member. He appeared in every season except the 16th and 17th installments of the show. During his time on the series, Sheets scored some major victories in the form of four Picassos and a valuable comic book collection. As per Page Six, after the show, 'The Gambler' packed his bags and settled in Arizona, where he ran a shop called 'Havasu Show Me Your Junk' until his death.
Once a fan-favorite on 'Storage Wars,' the 67-year-old was found dead on April 22, 2026. As per Variety, officials said he seemingly died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. “The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s criminal investigations unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation,” Lake Havasu Police stated. His body is currently in the custody of the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. Longtime followers of the A&E network show, who spent about 13 years rooting for their very own 'Gambler, ' were heartbroken by this news.
As per PEOPLE, the reality star suffered from a heart attack back in 2019 and was hospitalized. "Well, here we go. I wasn't going to say anything, but you all have been the greatest friends and fans. I've been very sick for 3 months, and two nights ago I had a mild heart attack, found out I have congestive heart failure and a severe issue going on with my lung," he wrote at the time on social media, noting that he was set to undergo surgery. "All your prayers would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for being there for me. It's been a great ride #storagewars # Romney has been by my side through all of this. She is a good woman, and I love her,” he shared about his then-fiancée, Romney Snyder.
It appears the reality TV star was also dealing with other issues, possibly because of negative interactions on social media. Rene Nezhoda, who appeared alongside Sheets in the A&E show, took to Instagram and shared that his friend was under a lot of duress because of cyberbullying. “He had this guy, like, really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying [him],” his co-star shared. “Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that’s been cyberbullying him and tormenting him, and I really hope [law enforcement] look into that guy and it’s just not a pass,” he added.
Nezhoda hinted that the bully may have been a follower of the show and urged fans to understand that just because they see someone on screen does not mean they know them in real life. He added, “You never know what demons somebody faces and what they go through and what you might push them through.” Sergeant Kyle Ridgway, public information officer for the Lake Havasu City Police Department in Arizona, told Page Six that officials were aware of the cyberbullying accusations and that they were being investigated.
