LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 5 dropped on HBO on July 14, 2024, and the enthralling episode took forward an engaging storyline where Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) is battling his mental demons at Harrenhall while all the action seems to be taking away from his presence.

Daemon is a warrior and veteran of many battles and perhaps he has more battle experience than almost everyone battling in the Dance of the Dragons but at this point in the battle, he seems to have become a liability for the Blacks.

His actions have caused more harm than good for Rhaenyra and their marriage is seemingly dwindling too. Here's a look at why he might be a liability for the Blacks right now.

Why Daemon might be a liability for the Blacks in 'House of the Dragon'?

Daemon's character has always been unpredictable and Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), and now Rhaneyra haven't been able to rely on him as an ally.

His revenge for the death of Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) saw him go to the extreme as his hired killers beheaded the young Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen. An action condemned by even those who were closest to him. The death of Jaehaerys has caused great harm to Rhaenyra's claim as a fair and just ruler in the eyes of the smallfolk.

Daemon has since been in Harrenhall and seems adamant about building an army while the rest of the Blacks fight far away from him. His presence and his dragon Caraxes could have been vital in the Battle at Rook's Rest where they lost Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).

Daemon is also conflicted about his ambitions as he feels he should be the King who rules the seven kingdoms. He has never been a team player and if ever, now is the time Daemon needed to be a team player.

While questions are being asked of Daemon right now, he will eventually be the biggest asset for Rhaenyra and the Blacks going forward. He has his own way of doing things but he usually comes out on top and this will be no different, as per 'Fire and Blood'.

The importance he is giving to Harrenhall pays off as he assembles an army and forces Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) to move their armies to Harrenhall. While Aemond and Criston try to take Harrenhall back, Daemon and Rhaenyra take King's Landing.

As the fight continues, Aemond's dragon Vhagar is the biggest threat to Rhaenyra's rule with the sheer size and dominance it has. Daemon takes down Vhagar and Aemond while giving his life in the process.

The Blacks doubting Daemon right now will learn to respect him later in the show.
