LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 is streaming on HBO on June 16, 2024. The much-anticipated show came back with a bang as the epic action-adventure series features the Dance of the Dragons.

Dance of the Dragons is the name given to the Targaryen civil war that took place between Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) both leading the Green and the Black factions respectively. The war was fought for the coveted Iron Throne claimed by both Aegon and Rhaenyra after the death of Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine).

With the Seven Kingdoms engaged in a fierce battle, fans can't wait to know who wins the epic war. 'House of the Dragon' is based on 'Fire and Blood' by George R R Martin and here is how Dance of the Dragons shapes up in the book.

Who wins the Dance of the Dragons in 'House of the Dragon'?

Dance of the Dragons is won by the Black faction ultimately however neither Aegon II Targaryen nor Rhaenyra Targaryen are alive by the time the war ends.

Dance of the Dragons claims the lives of almost all the central characters of the show. We have already seen the death of Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) in the Battle at Rook's Rest. As the war becomes more intense, battles like the Battle of Gullet will take place that will kill Jacerys Velaryon (Harry Collett) and Battle Above the God's Eye will kill both Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).

Aegon Targaryen will stay incapacitated after the injuries he suffered at Rook's Rest and King's Landing will fall to Rhaenyra Targaryen however she will have to leave the city after a rebellion and will ultimately be captured by Aegon and fed to the dragon Sunfyre. Aegon will return to rule King's Landing and will rule briefly before being poisoned by Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint).

Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) outlives her children and survives Dance of the Dragons but she dies soon after from winter fever.

After the death of Aegon II Targaryen, the throne is ultimately ascended by Rhaenyra's son Aegon III Targaryen who takes the throne with the help of Lord Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor).

Cregan establishes the rule of Aegon III Targaryen and brings everyone guilty during the Dance of the Dragons to justice. The event will come to be known as the Hour of the Wolf.

Aegon III Targaryen will continue to rule for a long time and will bring peace to the realm after the Dance of the Dragons. As for the dragons, only four dragons survive the civil war. Sheepstealer, Silverwing, Morning, and Cannibal are the dragons who survived the deadly war.
