'House of the Dragon' Season 2: Here's your guide to all 8 major houses in HBO hit show
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 will stream on HBO on June 16, 2024. The 'Game of Thrones' prequel has become the talk of the town as viewers anticipate high-octane action sequences, epic rivalries, and unpredictable twists and turns.
'House of the Dragon' unlike its iconic prequel centers around the Targaryen house and a legendary battle for succession to the Iron Throne. As we head into the second season though, we may see the return of some of our favorite houses from the 'Game of Thrones' world as two factions of the Targaryen House look for support.
Here's a look at some of the important houses in 'House of the Dragon' that will go into war in the second season.
House Targaryen

The Targaryens rule King's Landing and the Seven Kingdoms in 'House of the Dragon'. The show is primarily based on this house and a war of succession that takes place in this house once the incumbent ruler King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) dies.
The two claimants to the throne are Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney). Another important character in the show is Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), the brother of King Viserys Targaryen.
The house is known for being the master of Dragons, and Dragons are the ones that make them the most powerful house with their aerial supremacy and devastating dragon fire.
House Hightower

The Hightower house became one of the prominent houses in 'House of the Dragon' as Ser Otto Hightower represented the house as the hand of the king.
Otto's daughter Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) is Rhaenyra's best friend and eventual enemy when she marries King Viserys. House Hightower is known for its green color.
House Velaryon

House Velaryon is another house that gains prominence in 'House of the Dragon' narrative as King Visery's cousin Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and their subsequent family members also get married to strengthen the houses and their union.
Lord Corlys Velaryon is called the Seasnake for his exploits in the sea. He is responsible for making his house the wealthiest in the seven kingdoms even wealthier than the Targaryens and the Lannisters after his trading expeditions on his ship.
House Velaryon is a house that has been disrespected multiple times by the Targaryens but they have stayed loyal to the family and will be a key member of the Black faction in the second season.
House Strong

House Strong is represented as a very important house in 'House of the Dragon'. The house has its seat in Harrenhall and becomes important to the story when Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes) becomes the hand of the king.
His sons Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr) and Larys Strong ( Matthew Needham) find themselves on different sides as Harwin is loyal to Rhaenyra who he is also romantically involved. He is the biological father of Rhaenyra's three sons.
Larys is loyal to Alicent Hightower and he kills his brother and father to prove that loyalty. The murder is blamed on the curse of Harrenhall, a legend surrounding their castle in Harrenhall.
House Cole

House Cole becomes important with Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) who is one of the bravest warriors in all of Westeros. He is romantically involved with Rhaenyra Targaryen before becoming a loyal ally to Alicent Hightower.
Criston Cole is a character who has beaten Harwin Strong and Daemon Targaryen in battle and is also responsible for exposing the secret behind Rhaenyra's sons and their parentage.
House Stark

House Stark was one of the most prominent houses in 'Game of Thrones' but in 'House of the Dragon' it has only played a supporting role so far. But that is going to change as Lord Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor) becomes an important character this season.
House Stark has their base in Winterfell in the North in Winterfell which will also be making a comeback in Season 2 after being featured heavily in 'Game of Thrones'.
House Lannister

The Lannisters send their regards in 'House of the Dragon' however their involvement is limited in the first season with Ser Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall) being the most important character in the show from this house.
Lannisters are known to be a rich house in the seven kingdoms and are always involved with the politics in King's Landing.
House Baratheon

House Baratheon makes a late entry into the show as Lord Borros Baratheon (Roger Evans) commits to supporting the Green faction and Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell).
The house has its seat at Stormlands. The house becomes important about a century and a half after the events of 'House of the Dragon' as Robert Baratheon leads a rebellion and becomes the king before the beginning of events in 'Game of Thrones'.
