LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 2 premiered on HBO on Sunday, June 23, 2024, advancing the fan-favorite action-adventure series with a gripping episode.

One of the biggest talking points of the episode was the argument that took place between Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy).

The argument stems from the events of Episode 1, where Daemon's hired killers Blood (Sam C Wilson) and Cheese (Mark Stobbart) killed Prince Jaehaerys.

Rhaenyra is distraught that her name is implicated in the gruesome killing and directs her anger toward Daemon for the event.

Daemon and Rhaenyra have an interesting dynamic where they do not fully trust each other, and this tension comes to the fore when Rhaenyra openly voices her concerns.

Daemon also delivers a sharp retort where he insults Rhaenyra and her father, Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine).

Is Daemon responsible for Prince Jaehaerys's death?

When Daemon gives his instructions to Blood and Cheese, he mentions that he wants Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) dead. However, there is uncertainty left by the makers about what happens if they do not find Aemond.

When Blood and Cheese enter the Red Keep, they discuss their intention to get a son for a son. Whether this directive was explicitly given by Daemon or interpreted by the killers themselves remains unclear.

Daemon is an unpredictable character, and his actions can be extreme when seeking revenge. However, he denies involvement and refers to the death of Prince Jaehaerys as a mistake.

What emerges from the event is that Daemon's actions have made Rhaenyra unpopular in King's Landing and have strained the relationship between Rhaenyra and Daemon, just as they will need each other during the Dance of the Dragons.

As Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) puts it, the only way for Daemon to redeem himself now is to capture Harrenhal.

Daemon Targaryen is now missing and has left Dragonstone, where Rhaenyra has her base. According to the book 'Fire and Blood,' Daemon's next step is to go and seize Harrenhal.

Harrenhal is of great geographical importance as it connects King's Landing with the rest of the Riverlands. Capturing Harrenhal would be a significant strategic victory in securing an advantage in the Dance of the Dragons.

Daemon goes alone and captures Harrenhal on his dragon, as the castle surrenders to him.

The Greens also aim to capture Harrenhal, with Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) as their ally. However, Daemon and his dragon prove too formidable for the castle to resist.
