'House of the Dragons' EARLY REACTIONS: Critics praise 'incredible' series, say 'it's akin to early Thrones'
‘House of the Dragon’ is undoubtedly one of the biggest releases of 2022 and even though the last season of ‘Game of Thrones’ disappointed the fans, there is a lot of excitement for the prequel. A handful number of critics were able to see the first episode of the upcoming series during the premieres that were held in recent weeks and the first wave of reviews have finally come out and they are everything that a true ‘Game of Thrones’ fan would have wanted to hear.
Set 200 years before the events of ‘GOT’, the series primarily focuses on House Targaryen and sees the Targaryens ruling Westeros. It was a time when the house was at its peak and there was nothing or no one that could have defeated them. King Viserys decides to name Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) the heir to the throne and as soon as the announcement is made, a lot of people start questioning the decision. Things go out of hand soon and the formidable kingdom finds itself entangled in a civil war.

For the last few weeks, we have seen the HBO show holding premieres in places like Los Angeles, London, and more, giving a certain section of media a chance to see the first episode of the upcoming series. After the London premiere, many attendees shared their views on the show and said that the pilot episode is “incredible” and “akin to early” episodes of ‘Game of Thrones’.
One of the tweets read, “First eps are hard work – so much narrative paperwork! But I enjoyed House of the Dragon a lot. Looks incredible and enjoyed the allegorical, almost biblical propositions about the pursuit of power. #HouseoftheDragon.”
Another tweet said, “#HouseOfTheDragon thoughts: -Definitely more akin to early Thrones (smaller, grittier battle scenes; great throne room dialogue), -Not quite sold on Considine, Matt Smith great though, -Dragons look stunning, -Emotional scenes really hit hard, -A pleasant surprise after s8.”
Another attendee said, “Dracarys! So #Houseofthedragon really wowed me! Important takeaway: this is prime Game of Thrones! The opener does a great job of introducing a whole new cast (all at the premiere) of characters, the world is familiar but still shocking. It’s good to be back!”

On the other hand, one of the critics said that ‘GOT’ fans won’t be disappointed with the show because it features a lot of “violence” and “gore”. He tweeted, “I must add… in true GoT style, there was at least one triggering hard-to-watch scene. Just… be warned.”
These reviews indicate that the show would definitely be exciting for all the ‘Game of Thrones’ lovers and we can’t wait for the series to arrive on HBO.
