LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Richard Linklater's latest action rom-com film, 'Hit Man', follows the journey of an ordinary college professor whose life takes a dramatic turn when he adopts the guise of a phony assassin. The action flick, scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024, will make its streaming debut on Netflix on June 7.

The film, based on the Texas Monthly article 'Hit Man' by Skip Hollandsworth, revolves around Gary Johnson (Glen Powell), who, in addition to teaching, participates in sting operations run by local police and, in a turn of events, assumes the role of a fictitious assassin named Ron.

When Maddy Masters (Adria Arjona) enters his life and begs him to assassinate her spouse, Ray Masters (Evan Holtzman), the situation takes an even more dramatic turn.

As the film unfolds, Gary faces the issue of keeping the authorities at bay while maintaining his fake persona of Ron, as he develops strong affection for Maddy.

Gary concocts a clever scenario, knowing that Maddy's cover will soon be blown. When he arrives at Maddy's house, he shows her his phone, which is loaded with texts informing her that the cops are already monitoring her and are currently listening in on their conversation.

Even though he claims to be pressuring Maddy into telling the truth about Ray's murder, he is still using his texts to subtly give her instructions to deny it.

Gary asked Maddy when she last saw her husband after reading the instructions on the mobile phone. Maddy acknowledges seeing her husband at the Virgos club and says he threatened to shoot the man she was dancing with with a gun.

When Gary asked her about the second guy, following Gary's instructions, she asserted her innocence, vehemently rejected the charge of her husband's death, and said she was unaware of the man. She then pretended to kick Gary out of the house.

Gary went back to his squad, who were confused about Ray's death.

Eventually, the investigation was closed, and Jasper (Austin Amelio) hinted that they would not be looking for the second man, giving Gary a sense of relief.

Gary unexpectedly discovers Jasper drinking beer at Maddy's residence during his subsequent visit. Jasper wastes no time in revealing that he is aware of the couple's lie, and in exchange for his silence, he demands Ray's insurance money, which perplexes them.

Soon, Gary and Jasper get into a heated exchange, and Maddy intervenes.

Jasper, in despair, demands his job and money back, but in the process, he begins to act strangely and eventually collapses.

In a stunning turn of events, Maddy discloses that she spiked Jasper's beer and is now terrified that if she is discovered drugging a cop, she will wind up in jail.

Gary rushes to the kitchen, gets out a plastic bag, and covers the unconscious Jasper's head with it.

He then went on to explain his plan: Jasper's body would be discovered in an isolated location, with drugs in his system and his wife having left him a year earlier, and authorities would undoubtedly believe he had committed suicide.

Furthermore, considering Japser's grumpy demeanor, everyone will believe that he did it to himself. Maddy expresses her concerns about the idea, but Gary pacifies him and proclaims his love to her.

The lovers seal their deal with a kiss, while Jasper succumbs to his death in the background. In the final scene, Gary and Maddy are shown spending their lives with their children, while still deeply and madly in love.
