Spoilers ahead for season 1 episode 4 'His Dark Materials' titled 'Armour'

In episode 4 of 'His Dark Materials' titled 'Armour', the Gypsies take the immediate decision of heading up North in a rush to escape Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson) and her quest to find Lyra (Dafne Keen). After the Gypsies capture one of the two illegal spy flies sent by Mrs Coulter to hunt down Lyra, they set up north almost immediately lest Mrs Coulter follows. But, unbeknownst to them, Mrs Coulter is on a journey to the north herself.

Lyra and Farder Coram (James Cosmo) are advised by the Witch Consul to hire the "services of an armoured bear, which leads them to lorek Byrnison (Joe Tandberg), a panserbjørn who is stripped off of his armour and now forced to do metalwork for the humans - working to repay a "blood debt" to the Magisterium.

By the end of the episode, Lyra has successfully managed to get lorek on her side much to John Faa's (Lucian Msamati) surprise. The episode also introduced us to the highly delightful Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and his daemon Hestor.

Titled 'The Lost Boy', the episode will see the Gypsies asking the witches for their help in the war to save their children. The official synopsis of the episode read, "The alethiometer sends Lyra and Iorek on a new path, leading to a shocking but vital clue." In another promo clip released by the BBC, Lyra seeks the help of Ma Costa (Anne-Marie Duff). She says that she must visit a particular fishing settlement - guided of course by the alethiometer - but Farder Coram wouldn't let her go.

Lyra isn't exactly sure why she is being summoned to the village in this manner, but she knows that "something awful" has happened there. But that there might be a vital clue that could help them in their quest to rescue the children.

HBO's 'His Dark Materials' has set some really high standards for itself since it premiered last month. In comparison to 'The Golden Compass' starring Nicole Kidman as Mrs Coulter, Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra Belacqua, and Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, 'His Dark Materials' puts on a magnificent show so much so that 'The Golden Compass' doesn't even stand in the same league.

'His Dark Materials' airs on Mondays at 9 pm on HBO.
