HGTV's 'Fixer to Fabulous': Dave and Jenny Marrs give Victorian house a modern twist, here's how you can do it too

On the January 12 episode of ‘Fixer to Fabulous’, Dave and Jenny Marrs renovated a pre-historic house of Amy and Eric Duca. The house is almost 150 years old and belongs to the pre-Civil War era.

Jenny has an emotional attachment to the house as she remembered walking past it several times when her twins were young and she would take them on long walks. She wrote a lengthy emotional post on Instagram and shared an old picture of the house before the renovation, “Before moving to the farm, we lived in our downtown historic district (the move to the farm is a long story of unexpected detours in life that I’ll save for another time). Back then, it was just Dave and me and the twins and I used to take the boys for long walks to the park or to the square or the splash pad all the time (any momma knows that the goal for daily life with toddlers is to wear them out so they’ll sleep, and I had to double my efforts with two). Needless to say, we walked a LOT. I loved pushing the stroller or chasing behind them on their Big Wheels (they loved those things) while admiring the historic homes lining our path.”

“One house in particular always caught my eye. It was right on the corner, a few blocks down from our favorite park. And, gracious, it was cute. A little unkept, yet full of charm. I regularly told Dave that we needed to get our hands on that one.” She continued, “Fast forward 9 years: Amy and Eric Duca asked us to meet them at the pre-Civil War era home they had just purchased to discuss a remodel. I put the address into my GPS and my jaw dropped when I pulled into the driveway: they had bought THE house.”

She further wrote, “Tonight’s episode isn’t about a dramatic transformation where you won’t recognize the “before” photos (well, that’s not entirely true - the kitchen makeover is pretty dramatic), but it’s all about restoring the natural beauty of this home that is steeped in history. I loved this project so much and I just can’t wait for y’all to see it!”

“Watch tonight on @hgtv at 9|8c! (And don’t forget to catch ‘Life on Marrs’ right before at 8|7c). #fixertofab {To clarify: this is the “before” photos of the exterior - isn’t she the cutest to begin with?!}”

Indeed the transformation was beyond recognition as the official twitter handle of HGTV uploaded a before and after transformation video and we could see all the trademark Jenny and Dave Marrs renovation style. After moving 20 times in 28 years, Amy and Eric Duca were ready to make the move into a newly purchased Victorian home. Dave and Jenny Marrs help turn this house into a modern home where they would want to stay.

White walls, gray roof, trademark handbuilt Dave Marrs furniture in soft brown color, lots of cabinet spaces, bringing elements of black and white inside the house, a fascinating display of antiques and China cutlery, unique glass shower door with black detailing and beautiful and rugged patio furniture, the house had it all. They wrote on Twitter, “Now THIS is a house with character. #FixerToFab with @davemarrs and @marrs_jenny is on Tuesdays at 9|8c! Catch up on the first season now on @discoveryplus.”

Watch ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ every Tuesday at 9 pm ET/PT on HGTV.
