'Brother Vs Brother' Finale: How did Jonathan lose after putting such good performances in weekly challenges?

Drew Scott won 'Brother Vs Brother' Season 7. He made a net profit of $1.4 million from the sale of his Hancock Park house, while Jonathan Scott sold his house next door for $1.2 million. This is Drew's second win since the brothers started competing solo. However, if we take all the seasons into account, Drew is currently ahead of Scott with 4 wins to his name.

Even though Drew was at a disadvantage, he was able to pull off an amazing job of making his property look like a million bucks and yet retain the historical charm of it. Jonathan had earlier thought that it had more work and therefore, it would slow Drew down but none of that happened and he, surprisingly, emerged victorious.

In Season 7 Episode 1 of 'Brother Vs. Brother,' Jonathan was confident that he would "celebrate" in Drew's backyard (Jonathan's property, the house next door, was next to Drew's house), but that didn't happen. "I'm winning. Oh, I'll be celebrating in your backyard," he had said after smugly pointing out that it will be the "sweetest" 'Brother Vs Brother' win.

Unfortunately, his predictions fell flat. How did Jonathan lose after putting such good performances in the weekly challenges? Drew's house may have been in an older and poorer condition than Jonathan's but he knew the neighborhood down to the T. He has lived in Hancock Park for a while now and has a fair idea of what people look for when they are out buying houses in the area.

Another reason could be that he had a good enough idea of what Jonathan was doing with his reno project and was able to improve his ideas based on it. But it's highly unlikely that he would have cheated, albeit this one time when he barged into Jonathan's house, breaking one very important rule of the competition: none of the brothers are allowed to visit each other's properties until the competition is done and dusted. When Jonathan asked Drew to leave, he pretended to take pictures of his property and left. From the looks of it, it seemed like a gag, or a distraction to slow down Jonathan.

The 'Brother Vs Brother' Season 7 finale aired on October 14, Wednesday on HGTV at 9/8c.
