'Euphoria' has us applauding Kat's newfound boldness, but Ethan does not deserve that cold shoulder

Kat's epiphany helps her realize that 'there's nothing more powerful than a fat girl who doesn't give a f**k', but does that justify her cold shoulder towards the only person who's been sweet to her?

This article contains spoilers for 'Euphoria' episode five

In the latest episode of 'Euphoria', Kat had an epiphany. The previous episodes explored the character arc, played by Barbie Ferreira on HBO's controversial teen drama, by taking us to her past. As we traveled through her backstory, we saw an 11-year-old Kat go through a crazy middle school break up after she gained a ton of weight.

That should have been enough to drill into the young child's brain how vile some people can be, but she has her epiphany about five years later while having shady carnival backyard sex with a "cool" guy from high school. It was at that moment that Kat realized "there's nothing more powerful than a fat girl who doesn't give a f**k".

But most importantly, she also realized all men are "pathetic". Except that it's not entirely true. There's a certain someone called Ethan on the show who does not deserve being treated by Kat the way he is.

In the show's recent past, Kat has easily been through the most. From getting coerced into losing her virginity to a random guy at a high school party, and then having the video footage of their intercourse leaked online — Kat's experiences are pretty much traumatizing. But worry not, she found her silver lining in the form of comments under a copy of that leaked video on Pornhub.

Once she saw how desirable her body was to certain men, Kat gets inspired to earn some fast cash by becoming a cam-girl. Thus she is introduced to the world of humiliation porn and other risque kinks as she pretty much begins flourishing at the task. She had already amassed massive acclaim online by being the kickstarter of Larry Stylinson smut fanfic on the internet and as the cam girl, KittenKween is ruthless.

But this newfound enlightenment also leads to Kat's second sexual awakening, where she finally drops all inhibition and indulges in casual sex without a care in the world. From going down on in parked cars to having full-fledged sex behind the town carnival — Kat explores it all and comes to the realization that men are pathetic (at least those around her) and will do pretty much anything for sex.

However, while she was busy frolicking through heer epiphany, she has been extremely rude to the sweet and charming good boy Ethan, who is pretty much the only nice guy on the show so far. Considering the controversial nature of the show, dysfunctional characters muddled with several issues seems like the norm. Enter Austin Abrams' Ethan and suddenly you have hope for redemption for the town which seems to be populated with just the immoral.

From the very first moment they meet, Ethan has been nothing but kind to Kat. The two hit it right off and Ethan ended up paying for Kat's lunch and was actually the first boy who looked at her in the whole "she's cool in her own way" aspect. In that, Ethan doesn't see her as a nasty freak who likes to get down and dirty nor does he see her as Kitten Kween.

Of course, he doesn't know about that persona, but Ethan's fondness for Kat is just too pure. He's just a good kid who thinks Kat is cool the way she is. His only fault? Speaking to a really hot blonde woman at the carnival while Kat was busy getting them slushies. The blonde girl was asking Ethan for his sister, which Kat doesn't know because she just watched them from afar and ghosted Ethan from that point on. Even when he sees her later at school, she barely speaks to him, giving him the silent treatment. Seriously, Kat. What did he do?

'Euphoria' airs on Sundays at 10 pm, only on HBO.
