Halsey ‘If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power’: Fans adore album on pregnancy truths
Halsey, who recently became a mother, dropped her much-awaited concept album ‘If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power’ which is based on the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. The ‘Badlands’ hitmaker has been teasing her fourth album since June 2021 on her social media accounts and it finally landed on leading streaming platforms on Friday, August 27.
The latest project from the 26-year-old crooner is a follow-up to her critically and commercially successful record ‘Manic’ released in January 2020. The album included some of the year’s chart-topping numbers like ‘Without Me’, ‘Graveyard’, and ‘You Should Be Sad’ among a few others. The cover art of Halsey’s latest full-length record is heavily inspired by artistic depictions of Mary, mother of Jesus. Social media users, who were eagerly waiting for the singer's album could not get enough of the album as they all connected it with their personal lives.

Halsey’s new album is about joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth
Halsey took to her Instagram a few weeks ago to share the official cover art of the album and while doing so she also explained the concept of the album in detail. The R&B songstress stated, “This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months.” She continued, “The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.” The singer added, “My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being.”
Halsey concluded, “This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!” She then revealed the release date of the album saying, “My fourth album, out August 27, 2021.” The album has been produced by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
