If you watched the Season 17 premiere of 'Grey's Anatomy', you would have been shocked to see Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) return on the show. Derek died in Season 11, leaving a heartbroken Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and a million grieving fans behind. Meredith might have moved on with Andrew DeLuca, but going by the latest episode, Meredith just might die and reunite with Derek. At the end of the episode, Meredith collapses and finds herself in her happy place at a beach and sees Derek.

Meredith and Derek's most profound moments took place in the elevator, including their proposal. Derek proposed to Meredith in the elevator plastered with all the medical scans from patients that they had worked to save together.

Oh the good old days of 'Grey's Anatomy'. Back in Season 2, when Derek was torn between Meredith and his ex-wife Addison (Kate Walsh), Meredith made the most epic speech to him, amounting to one of the most memorable monologues in GA history. She says, "She's great, but I love you Derek. Like hold a radio over my head, let you have the last slice of cheesecake love you that makes me want to hate you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me."

This scene is often featured in Meredith's flashbacks of Derek. After looking longingly at each other, while dancing with their respective partners, they reunited in a beautiful moment in the exam room.

Who wants a fancy church wedding, when you can just exchange vows through post-its? That's exactly what Meredith did.
'You were like coming up for fresh air'
After Meredith finds out about Addison, she asks Derek for an explanation. And he says, "I felt I was drowning. You were like coming up for fresh air." Who doesn't want a Derek in their lives?
Of course, there were countless other moments such as Meredith building a house of candles for him, or when Derek saves Meredith from water, or when she recalls him as she has a hand on a bomb. There's a reason why Derek and Meredith made such an iconic couple and the show has never been the same, ever since he left.
